Hog Walleye Caught!
This hog was caught on the lower Detroit River....This is all I read on another forum... "Just wanted to share this photo of a 15.9 lb'er just caught today on the lower Detroit River. I don't have any more info than this for now. Not the best quality photo either maybe I can get a better one later. He was fishing by himself so he had to fight it and net it." 4-13-2011 I think I lost that thing boatside last summer!!  By the way, Michigan's state record walleye is 17.9 lbs caught in 1951 - Pine River...Two lbs off!  I also did not realize that PA's record walleye is exactly the same....Allegheny Res. - 1980....WOW! Also, of all the surrounding states on Erie, only Ohio has an Erie state record fish to claim tipping scales at 16.3 lbs - 1999...Just another walleye tid-bit of info.

I wouldn't know what to do if I caught that thing except scream. It would look great on a wall but could also probably feed a small village throughout lent.

a real fisherman would have taken measurements and got a replica made after releasing the fish because there aren't many big ones like that in the lake... i hope he never catches another walleye again (joking  ) that's a pig of a fish... the only time you lost a walleye that big at the boat was in your dreams after a night with Red Stag!

I seem to remember a few years back of a huge walleye caught in Pa that the PaFC weighed that may have been a world record but the fisherman refused to allow certification because he would have to say where he caught the fish. The man said enough people already fish those waters and didn't want a big influx of fisherman to that area. Also, the haters would hound him as something illegal was done and he said it wasn't worth the BS. Anyone remember the story or is it another trick in my old mind?...WF

Yep, I believe the fish was caught in the Allegheny watershed....Kinzua, I believe. I think is was pushing 16lbs. Not a world record either....The current world record comes from Arkansas....Greers Ferry Lake...22lbs 11 oz.

Nice fish. Use to see 15lbers caught in Oswego river in may years ago. big ol' critters.

Shutup, I really believe it was over the 22 lb. mark.About 8 or 10 years back. I think the guy wouldn't even say what part of the state, though he did say Pa waters....WF

You know....To me that doesn't make much sense. I can understand a fisherman not wanting any recognition and wanting to keep things private....but what in the world harm is done by actually weighing a fish to get an official weight and length on it? Maybe it's just me but it seems liek getting an actual weight on the thing wouldn't be a bad idea at all.
