2500 CFS - Ouch!

Headed to the Salmon River next week and scared the Salmon R. might be too high to fish. Are there any nearby tribs that might be better to fish?

    Hey Trout-
The water can go up and down pretty quick this time of year so whatever is happening now might be very different in a week. I love the tribs but they can get packed whenever the river is high cause a lot of guys dont like the high stuff.  Specially on weekends. The fish get very spooked with all that pressure and dont bit well.
I dont fish the lower river much this time of year but am determined to start- Remember the fish are on their way OUT so they will be there -probably longer than in the upper river. For some reason even when the upper is packed the lower has comparatively little pressure which is really starting to get attractive to me. Used to go there all the time and score but  for whatever dopy reason stopped.

Although this water level is typical for this time of year, its a little annoying to think they held it back about a week and a half ago.. they should've started letting it go then.... for some reason they only ran 750 while there was obvious melting and runoff to make the river near 2000.

... On the other hand; maybe my suspicions were correct;)

2500 is not too high. Unless there is a good amount of rain the river is very fishable. You just have to know where to go. I used to fear the high water myself. Not anymore unless its retarded high. If you have trouble with the high water salmon river has a little brother. Make a donation to the sisters and you can park and have a ball.

Just got back from the Salmon river and the flow is 3,000. Went up yesterday the 13th. and the flow was 2,000 and dirty. We banked fished with no hookups all day, all we got was wet from all the rain. Today the 14th. we took a float trip and had many hookups, but only landed (4) four fish. The bites were real soft and fighting then in high water was trying . The river is loaded with fish ,so get up there and have some fun. Good luck and tight lines.

    Hey Trout-
One thing not many guys  do that I have tried from time to time  is Brown fishing the lake at Selkirk Shores this time of year.
Have had mixed results with it  but a  guide report  says they are catching them in 4 to 8 ft of water right now. Have gone to Selkirk and fished around the mouth of the creek there and from time to time catch some nice fresh Browns. Nights are best but have also caught them in daytime.
Wear your chest waders and walk out as far as you can to cast and then walk your rod back to shore. Guys use a upright rod holder generally made from PVC with an angle on one end to drive into the rocky shore.
Now and then they even pickup a Steel or two there. The shops will sell a slip sinker and suggest using a floating egg sack (usually red) Frankly have had just as much luck with garden hackle. Lures are also used .
Not a bad day if you get pushed  off the river cause of high water and the wind is right on the Lake. Bring a lawnchair cause sitting on those rocks is tough on the posterior. Once in a while its nice to just sit back and take it easy 'fishing'.
Not what most guys picture coming up the the SR but it beats staying home doing chores.

Hey metal I heard that the secret police and pulaski fire department were out at 2 am with the fire pumps flooding the field down the night before your sons game. Coming from a very reliable source too...
