Original rapalas, 1/4 oz spoons and 1/4 oz roostertails always produces for me. I only fish for them when they run up the creeks caught 18 last night. They are a blast cause they run in schools trick is to get them will they run once you find them keep following them around and you will get a bunch of them good luck

Jigs with curly tails, spinners, small spoons or live minnows. Watch out, you will need to be able to identify between small wipers and white bass. I catch both out of the Beaver/Ohio River watersheds. You don't want to get caught with an undersized hybrid. http://fishandboat.com/fishpub/summary/inland.html Check you summary regulation book, they have tooth patch pictures to help you identify.

Ditto all the above and yes they are good to eat, but are very prone to turning foul in taste if not handled wisely. Whenever we get white bass we ice them immediately and when the filleting gets done the fillets are very thoroughly rinsed in cold water and re-iced. This is mostly common sense for any fish that are kept for eating, but white bass, largemouths and smallmouths can get a very strong taste if not promptly iced and thoroughly rinsed after filleting.

They're very good actually...just get them on ice quick if you're gonna keep them..they go foul fast in a livewell...right now just run up a creek and throw a hopkins or a jig+grub or shad body

Ive caught some while fishing for smallmouth. Caught em on lucky craft jerk baits, Im sure any jerkbait will work. Fish em around usual bass structure: trees, rocks, weedlines. Caught most of em around trees and rocks.
I want to eat your brains and gain your knowledge.

if you can find the migration, and its about this time of year, you can catch them on anything you cast out. we used to get thousands at the warf in brownsville but i havent tryed for years. we would go down after trout feeshen on the 1st day.

I think they are the worst tasting fish out there. I catch a ton of them using small jigs with a bobber. A suspended rapala ,3", really hammers them at times. Its still too early here in Mercer,Co. for a good bite.

I used to catch tons in the Ohio. Not sure if this is happening around here, but I had read that in a lot of fisheries down south the white bass population is crashing. Not sure why, but they used to be one of the top 2 or 3 targeted species on Lake Norman. Now there are almost none left. Used to get big ones in the French Broad in NC. Now, almost none...

ratz, i just put one in the freezer to try. Rich: I used a pickled fish recipie I found online for the white bass and thought they were great. No where close to Somerset to catch them that I am aware of though.

we used to get thousands at the warf in brownsville but i havent tryed for years. Indeed. There was a time when you'd catch so many white bass around there that your arm would get tired. Seems like those days are over though. At least from what I've heard. If anyone knows any different I'd be glad to hear about it. The best baits for white bass during the spring tend to be white and yellow curly tail grubs (Mister Twister) on a jig head or silver Little Cleo spoons. When you get into a shoal, you can even run two lures on the same line and catch two at a time. The stir caused by the first strike often brings other fish in to investigate.
