capacity plate infomation
cant read the capacity plate on my 14 ft boat can i get a replacement plate or is it to much bs to worry about

You should be able to get one through the manufacturer of the boat, if they are still in business. The amount of hassle probably depends on the company you have to deal with.
I can't remember if there is anything specific in the regs causing a fine/ticket if the plate isn't readable but it could be. The person checking you and your boat is supposed to be able to use it to determine how many people you can carry safely. I guess it's basically a 'better safe than sorry' thing.
I would contact your manufacturer with the make/model/year of your boat to see if they can get you another. Most currently operating companies have web sites and usually a 'contact us' page to get you started. We have done it for a couple of boats over the years and never had trouble getting them.

You must have a readable capacity plate, state law. Do not risk it. Because they will fine you! My plate faded in my boat and it is a super simple form you print out online, fill in basic info, length width transom height.... With in a week i got my new one from the state for 5$. They apply the capacitys that they get from running your number through their formula, so they will most likly be different than the ones you have now. http://www.fish.state.pa.us/images/pages/forms/pfbc702capacity.pdf

Sounds like the state is the way to go.
I tried to get a replacement capacity plate for a trailer a few years ago and the manufacturer would not give me one, they said there was no guarantee that it would end up on their trailer. Guess I see their point. I was eventually able to read the existing plate using different spectrums of light, and a magnifying glass. I see no reason that those plates aren't stamped or engraved so that they wouldn't fade. Probably saves them $1.

Photograph the plate.
A little photoshoping may be needed but things show up that you cant see directly looking at it.
A photo might also make it easier to get a new one.
I almost got a ticket in my jet boat for an unreadable plate and my capacity changed from 6 to 5 when I removed bench seat and installed buckets.

I second that anzomcik. Make sure you send in the form asap. They are starting to get very busy and you might have to wait awhile to get it if you don't.

Good info Anzo! I got one from the state for my 16ft. aluminum boat, I use for the inland lakes. Was not one on boat when I bought it.
My Wife said, if I go fish'n one more time, she'll leave me! God, I'm going to miss her!

REGULATIONS APPLICABLE TO CAPACITY PLATES 1. Capacity plates are required to be permanently affixed to every monohull boat less than 20 feet in length designed to carry two or more persons and to be propelled by machinery or oars as its principal source of power if: (a) The boat is manufactured, transferred, sold or offered for sale in Pennsylvania; or (b) The boat is operated on waters of this Commonwealth. 2. Pontoon boats, canoes, sailboats, kayaks, inflatables, hydroplanes, personal watercraft and boats considered by the Commission to be of unusual or unique design such as “sneak†boats and “thrill†craft, shall be exempt from a capacity plate.

for a boat just type the year and go from mfg larger boats of 27ft or larger may not have a plack my 30 ft does not but i do not plan having 15 or so people on board at any given time that may smell lol
