Bait shops in South Hills

Does anyone know if there is anywhere to buy some live bait near Peters Lake/Canonsburg Dam? I will be taking my 5 year old fishing and would like to be able to pick up some bait on the way. I will be coming south on 19 from Dormont if that helps with any locations in between.

Thanks

Try the Wal-Mart pet section. Goldfish make great bait. Make sure you get the ones with the googley eyes.

Just some worms and maggots would be all we need. He will be doing the fishing. I will be doing the tying, unsnagging, baiting.

I'm as serious as a case of the HIV. Walleyes love them. When the state stops putting brown trout and rainbow trout in PA waters, I'll stop using googley-eyed goldfish as bait. Remember, Borg, get the ones with GOOGLEY eyes. They work the best.

Just don't get caught with goldfish in your minnow bucket, not sure what the fine is but I know it is illegal.

with all the BullShlt fish the state stocks over wild populations of native fish or the buckets of dog food addicted rainbows in golified sewer ditches...
i think goldfish are a welcomed change

i'd rather catch an escapee goldfish that grows to 3lbs than some cross eyed raceway mutant that was pumped from a tanker truck

    and yes... waleye love goldfish

There is also Tackle Unlimited on 51 in Jefferson, above the Elizabeth bridge. There are Can-a-bait locations all over too. If you are looking for worms/mealworms ect. Buy now and toss in your fridge until you use them. Keep you from having to make a special trip out of the way.

Not sure why someone doesn't open up a snack/bait stand at the lake. Even for just the first few weekends of trout season, they'd make a killing.

I was at Tackle Unlimited about a month ago.  Couldn't resist the crawler prices and bought a few dozen.  Had no problem resisting his shiner prices, went to Gander and got some Gulp.

There is also Island Firearms on Neville Island. Not exactly the South Hills, but if you're near 79, its a decent place to buy live bait.

Just stop any any AM/PM mini mart or other conv store. Most all carry canabait (worms/crawlers) and during trout season will have maggots/meal worms etc - or even some USELESS doughbaits.

I agree on Gander. One of the few places were they don't count the minnies. They have the bait to entice you to buy in the store. It works!

There is an older guy that works the fishing department at the Wash Gander...can't remember his name (Fred maybe?) They had the only ice auger in Pittsburgh and he held it behind the counter for me while I made the trip from****s in Robinson. ****s quote..."didn't order any augers this year") Needless to say, I was pretty ****ed but Fred hooked me up. I will spend my money at the Gander Mtn store in Washington any time.

And you're right city, you get 3 dozen minnows and I swear that they give you 5 dozen...and they stayed alive with just a small aerator for over a month.
