Some of the "local owned" office supply stores carry them...like Henry-Hall in Indiana,PA has them.
Also some of the local engineering firms like L. Robert Kimball in Ebensburg and ACE Engineering in Punxsutawney sell them.

If I remember correctly, I once seen a link on the USGS website than took you to a list of retailers that sell maps.
Should be the link at the top..."Get printed maps"

    This one lists the sellers...

Thanks guys. That list of sellers is perfect.

I have a bunch of them electronically, but for things like this, it's good to have a hard copy as well.

if you only need small sections of an area, google maps has a "terrain" veiw. This is a topographical view that you can print out on regular sized paper.

Not terribly usefull if you want a large map with great detail, but for smaller areas with high detail, it is very good.

"A Homewood man led police on an hourlong car chase that ended with a crash injuring three officers.

"The car was driving itself," Wright said. "The car has a GPS. It's a Lincoln Navigator. They drive themselves. I wasn't running nowhere."

I've bought topo maps from guy at the P.G.C.A. gun show. The show was at Pittsburgh Mills last week but, there is a gun show at the Washington Co. Fairgounds April 9 - 10. He may be there or at the gun show at the Monroeville Expo Center April 30 - May 1. I bought a Fayette Co. map & a Somerset Co. map ( 2 maps - 1 northern section, 1 southern section). Both maps are roughly 3 feet by 4 feet and are very detailed. I'll give you his address and phone number so you can call him to see if he'll be at one of the gun shows being that your from Latrobe and each show isn't a short drive. I'd like to get back to Latrobe and get some Hotel Loyal pizza.
    Here's the address.

    Hope this helps, Matt.

Thanks for the continued info guys, it really is a help.

I've done my share of checking out maps online, and even printing them for personal use, but, whether its my printer, or the resolution of the files themselves, it never looks nearly as good as the USGS maps on paper, or even as good as itself when it's on the screen.

Hendey, that sounds really interesting. It's probably too scaled down for what I'm looking for (namely tracing small mountain streams and finding access via dirt roads and trails), but that kind of a map is always a source of learning.

The April 9-10 weekend I'll be up in the mountains, actually going to an outing with my old boy scout troop and helping some of the boys earn the new fly fishing merit badge, so I wouldn't be able to get to the fairgrounds anyway. The Apr 30-May 1st show I might be able to do, though. I'll be in Cleveland earlier in the week and might actually find myself passing through the Monroeville area on either of those days.

And Hotel Loyal is good stuff. Reeeeaaaally good stuff.
