Circle Hook Survey for Anglers

Circle Hook Survey for Anglers
In an effort to better understand what the angling community thinks about circle hooks, you are invited to complete a short online survey where you will have the opportunity to provide input on this topic. The target community is anglers in North America that have used circle hooks at least once. The information you provide us is important! By completing the survey, you help ensure that the results are as complete and useful as possible. Your participation in this survey is voluntary and you may decide to stop at any time. You cannot be personally identified. For further information on survey data collection procedures and safeguards regarding confidentiality, contact Dr. Steven Cooke (Associate Professor, Carleton University, Ottawa) at steven_cooke@carleton.ca. Findings from the survey will be available at www.carleton.ca/fecpl by mid June. In addition, results from the survey will be incorporated into an overview presentation on biological and social aspects of circle hook use in recreational fisheries at the upcoming first world conference on circle hooks.
You can access the survey here: http://app.fluidsurveys.com/s/circlesurvey/
The survey portal will be open until April 10th 2011. Please share this posting with others that you know have experience with circle hooks.

Seems like an attempt to further regulate fishing to apease the "bambi" type crowd..WF...P.S. Forgot to add before, half the fun is setting the hook and you can't do that with these hooks. Had no luck at all on smallmouth, missed way too many, and real tuff for me to hook trout.

Gah tree huggers...  I use all the way from #6/0 too #8, and love them I gut hook less fish and C/R is easier imo when they are hooked at or near the jaw.

WF is correct.  It has already started for some of the saltwater fisherman.
I like them but think they have their place and time and are not always the best choice.  I would hate to be regulated into using them all the time.

+1  from nc south to florda all bottom fishing must use circle hooks starting this april. just one thing for "them" to regulate "us".
i don't like them for fresh water and only use them sometimes for salt. and i cpr everything.

i love them for cats. not so much for carp. they slide right out of a carp.
since i started using them for cats i haven't had any gut hook ups.

Cats are so easy and nice on them... I caught smallies and some largemouth on them as well as trout, not bottom fishing at all they all hooked in the upper lip or in the corners or bottom lip, no gut hooks or deep hooks which is imo great, but I still like straight shanks and non offsets and non circles... As was said above, there is a time and place for them and it would be a shame if it becomes a regulation...Also because, what determines you are "bottom" fishing?  Is that like putting a split shot 1' from the hook and slow bouncing?  Or huckin it out there and leaving it sit for hours... It can become quite distorted...

i wouldn't say that. carp are gonna take a fly further in than a boilie or dough bait. my hook is rarely inside my bait. a circle hook just doesn't seem to work on a hair rig. it creates a bad angle for a solid hook set, keeping the point away from the lip. atleast it seems that way. i never tried a fly tied on a circle hook.

after watching that vid i don't think it'll matter that you used circle hooks. a carp is gonna inhale that fly and keep looking for more. i never saw anyone do the dubbing that way. i might have to bust out the vice.

Circle hooks are pretty standard for certain species of fish, like flathead and blue catfish. They lead to a more sure hook set and an easier retrieval of your hook. Like all tools, they have their applications.

i like them only because i can keep the cat rod out and let the fish hook itself while im throwing lures for bass. but i wouldnt think about trying them for anything other then cats.
