Braid Question

I was wondering if there is a way to keep the line form cutting in toward the spool on a spinning reel. Happened to me when the drag was tight. Not too familiar with braid. Thanks

    try letting out most of line off the reel and reeling it back in with tension on the line, packing it more tightly on the spool. heavier line does this less. but i have 4lb. on a few of my reels and this isnt realy an issue for me. if the line is tight on the spool theres nowhere for it to dig in.

    That was my plan, Took it all off the reel and waiting to respool. I thought I put it under enough tension the first time, guess not. Using 20lb.

    Make sure you put about 10 or 15 yds of mono on first or the braid will slip on the spool

    i put mono on before i spool up my trolling rods with braid or wire. I have heard of people using a wrap of electrical tape to keep it from slipping or cutting into the spool.

    I had the same problems when I first started using braid although I use a baitcaster. I fill my spool about 1/2 to 3/4 full with mono packed on as tightly as I can then when I put my braid on I put it in the sink with water and reel I on with as much tension as possible haven't had any problems since I started doing it this way hope this helps

    Also there are reels designed just for braid that wind the line in more of an -x- pattern which cuts down on that problem... when you consider the cost of these lines and just how much every tangle actually costs its probably worth the money if you fish braid alot.

    i use braid on all my rigs from utra light to surf, you have to put backing on first either mono or tape, and it has to go on extremly tight. the line should feel rock tight on the spool when done and your fingers and hand should hurt and be the same color as the line..lol. tight lines justin

    Yeah, good advice. I put half a spool of mono on mine before the braid, too. I learned the hard way. I had a big baitrunner spooled with 300 yards of braid. I lent it to my brother who had no idea how to cast it and he let the line hang out the back of the boat and re-reeled over top of 3 or 4 bird's nests... Because the line dug in so deep I had to basically cut all of it off and throw it away. It was a $35 mistake...

    Starting with mono is a good way to go. Keeps the line from slipping on the spool. I started with a cheap braid however and ran into slipping until I used a tight improved clinch knot to connect the line to the spool and have been in good shape since. Tight packed line is the only way to go on the reel.
    *** A lot of muskie guys like 100 lb and better braids because the thickness keeps the line from digging into itself. I use 50 and 80 lb tiger braid on my baitcasters and had 5 seasons of good fishing.
