Deep Cycle Battery Charging

I have a 12v 105 ah battery and the only charger I have is a 2/4/6 amp charger/maintainer. I've hear that charging this slow is bad and I've also heard charging too fast is bad. What's the truth?

For that size battery, 6 amp setting is fine.
If it is a charger/maintainer as you say, it should drop down to a trickle charge after the battery is full up.

Also, make sure that you check the fluid level each time that you charge the battery and keep the plates covered. - If you need to add water, use ONLY distilled water (go buy a jug at the grocery store to keep on hand!)and not sink or creek water!!

Never quick charge a deep cycle battery. Make sure you run the battery down to around 80% discharge for maxium life.

    1.Recharge immediately after each use

2.Use battery charger matched to the battery's size

3.Do not overcharge; an automatic charger that turns off or on with a timer is your best bet

4.Always slow charge a deep cycle battery; never fast charge or boost charge it

5.A 10-12 hour charge with the appropriate charger at the correct amp rate will usually bring your battery to a full state of charge from a deep discharge

when a batt shows no charge at all you may have to reverse the leads for a few seconds it knocks off the build up on the plates inside the batt do this a few times then hook up correct pos to pos and neg to neg and charge at 6amphr do not put on fast charge the batt needs a deep soak charge then after its charged back up dis charge down and then recharge right away this will revive the batt

I'm curious as to how many seconds 5-10 -15??? How many times? fast or slow? (understand slow after you knock off build-up) and will it harm your charger? Thanks

10 to 15 sec you can also do this by switching from power start if you have it 75amps on batt charger do that 4 to 5 times to get the batt going

If you are in the market for a new charger, Walmart has a black and decker charger with a battery refurbish / desulfer mode ( ~70 bucks).  I have had luck refurbishing 4/5 batteries that were sitting for a few years.  They would not take a charge from a regular charger.  It has paid for itself a few times.
