Gobbling

Havent been out to listen yet, but after this last bit of snow leaves in the next week I plan to. Should be givin a gobble or two in the mornings right? I have seen em strutting in fields with the flock but I have seen that in January. Anybody heard them sounding off yet?

Funny time of year- Sometimes they gobble a very little bit on the roost even in the Summer or Fall but in the Spring they dont seem to sound off till they really get to breeding early next month.  From what I have seen they ACT like they are breeding with all the strutting around and posturing but I never thought they really got going till April.  Always believed that most of it was over before the  hunting starts. We seem to just catch the tail of the HOT TIME for the first week or two then its a different hunt. Sometime in late May they really can drop off on the gobble too- partys over by then.

Also heard several gobbles this month. As far as gobbling late May, it all depends. I shot a bird the last day of May last year as I got out and heard them gobbling at day break.

I'm getting some moderate roost gobbles early -then zippo-the gobbles  was referring to were the ones we hear when they are "active" that go on during the day too. You know- when the get down and go nuts .

Well- its mid April and what few turkey I have out back are firing off pretty good now on the roost. Lot less birds than last year. They usually leave here in 'winter and come back in Spring =-guess the longer than average cold spell has held some of them off. Too bad cause if they start to hen up someplace else they will never get here. OH well -one or two is plenty to work and have fun with.
