Tackle travel

Whats the best way to pack for traveling on airlines. Planning a pike trip and have a feeling my lures alone are gonna cost me! My empty tackle box weight a lot itself!

IMO I would ship it with a delivery confirmation if you have an address to ship it to

I agree ship ahead of time. If anyone can loose it, the airlines can. Additional baggage is pretty expensive compaired to ground shipping.

ship ahead. But if you don't, I'd forego the boxes altogether and get some soft sided wraps/bags. I assume you're talking about big plugs, spinnerbaits, spoons, and some cranks. The plastic hook covers will be your friend to keep tangles and punctures to a minimum. Then you can put the lures in your various suit cases. If you want to put some in your carry-on (I would advise it for a handful of favorites) you'll need to take the hooks off so keep that in mind.

Still, shipping it so that it arrives a week before you get there ensures that (1) you know it is there from the confirmation number and (2) if it isn't there you can buy some more lures here before you go and pack them.

    Thanks,
    Rick
