Sinking Boat Rescuers Recognized0/5 ratingPrint ArticleReported by: Mike Krohmalya
It was a grateful day for the men who experienced a nearly tragic event last summer.

If you can remember, last year on June 25, four men were saved after their boat sank out on Lake Erie, and now the men who rescued them are getting much needed recognition.

Jack Bish's 25 foot cabin motorboat left Walnut Creek Access with four people on board.

Shortly after they departed from land something frightening happened, their boat started to sink out on the lake

Now, nine months later the rescuers along with the survivors were reunited at the Sports and Travel Expo, rewarding the six men that saved lives on that summer day.

"This is absolutely great,” said Captain Jack Bish.

“It was kind of a surprise not a shock I thought this is good they did this for those guys. You get to see them again I don't remember them the other guys” said, Survivor Bud Price

On behalf of the PBFC and Officer Tolber, the investigating officer they were each presented with a Life Saving award for being the first responders and for saving lives.

"Biggest thing to happen to me in my lifetime. I am pretty proud, “said Rescuer Ferd Matula

I saw something about the awards on the local news.  It was a great thing those guys did to rescue the fellows whose boat sank.  They deserve the awards.

    Great work!

I remember that day...I was out there offering my hand and the guys were just getting into another boat to be taken in...It was an eary feeling seeing that boat with only about 2' of the tip sticking out of the water and all the debri floating around it. Also hearing the guys calling "may-day" on the radio...that boat sunk quick! Scary feeling.

Lakeshore searched a 10 mile cirle where the boat went down and couldn't find it. They said with the current underwater it may have gone to Canada. My boat is WALCAT.
