spinning for trout-part 2
if using spinning gear, what types of bait or lures? my only experience with this is fishing a stocked lake over here in ohio and most guys were using velveeta cheese, marshmallows and corn . the few fish that we kept tasted like dog food, so we gave that up fast. are there a lot of guys spin fishing for trout? again, this is just out of curiosity. i will continue to fish fly stuff when i do trout fish.

I haven't done much Trout fishing the past few years but when I did I'd fish Justus Lake or Oil Creek. When fishing the lake I'd use Kastmasters or Roostertails, for fishing Oil Creek I'd use salmon eggs or corn sometimes minnows or maggots.
I'm gonna fish more and work less. Have A Crappie Day

rap, spin fishing, aside from pinning with smaller rods if you can cast them, is very effective w. live bait. Get some 3 g sheffield floats, suspend a minnow just off the bottom, tapering shot just as you would for a pinning rig, or tight line drift it off the bottom with no float. nightcrawlers, minnows, all of it will catch fish with ease. keep at the fly flinging... swing wets, drift nymphs, strip streamers

when spinning for trout my go to lures are rooster tails, panther martins, small spoons like daredevils or kastmasters, and rapala husky jerks or very small crankbaits.

Pelletheads will hit anything yep, corn, marshmallows, cheese........sheeeesh my first steelhead caught back in the late 80s came on a white rooster tail. we also would dress them with a crawler and troll them for walleye in the summer. still have a bunch but they collect dust these days.

From psu.. I'd be targeting the south central part of the state. not bass, pike, panfish, etc., which will, in your words, hit anything. forgot though, aren't you an advocate against the over-romanticization of trout fishing club?

Not sure which club your talking about? When I was at school at PSU 2004-2008 I fished out at Colyer Lake for bass from the shore. I never fly fished Spring Creek or any of the limestone creeks. I dont care if people want to fawn over trout, as I only fish the opening day out of a boat on Justus Lake.

Hey Rap Any small rapala in the 3 inch range should produce. I like the jointed minnows in brown and rainbow trout patterns. Trout magnets, a small jig, works well. Also small spoons like little cleo's, pheobe, and kastmasters, with a lot of flash. A Super Duper is a good producer when fished with a slow retrieve. Lift it as you reel it in and then let it flutter back down. As for live bait i only use three. Minnows, meal worms and maggots. Tight Lines Trout Man

In my eyes, a waste... but I can see your point. Cast, reel, cast, reel...

what is there to say? Stocked trout arent much of adventure. Wild trout are a different story. I'd rather chase 5 lb Smallmouths on the Allegheny River, Largemouth bass at Kahle, Walleyes in Erie and Pymy, Crappies at alot of different places and Steelhead on the tribs.
