Its time to take the plunge!

I'm not putting it off any longer - I'll be learning to fly fish and have my first Steely adventure this year. I've been watching the this forum for a couple of years now and I’m missing way too much fun!

Skip is taking care of the rods for me (RX6 5 WT & RX7 7 WT) the 5 WT is for my time on the Yough River.

71GTO will be taking me reel shopping once the rods are finished. Now, I have complete faith in Skip’s rods, but, I really haven’t seen 71GTO do much good fishing which leaves me a little concerned…… I think I’ll need MO’s help to make sure I get steered in the right direction.

Then of course I’ll have to learn how to use this gear to catch fish!

Any ‘constructive’ advice would be greatly appreciated! hehehe

Fishing with MO is good advice. Watch, learn and then experiment and develop your own techniques. What works for me may not be the best for you.

I figure I'll do much of my learning on the Yough where there is no one but my neighbors to laugh at me; I give them plenty to laugh at already.

I'm doing the same thing. I was given a fly rod and reel a few years ago. I gave it a try but not a fair try and put it up in storage. It was just collecting dust. I decided to give it another try this time and let it be a fair try. So if you see a guy on some stream that looks lost then it's a good shot that it is me.

If you've gotta cheap out in one aspect of your trout setup, cheap out on the reel. Get a good line.
If you've gotta cheap out in one aspect of your steelhead setup, cheap out on the line. Get a good reel.

Those guys are a good pair to learn with, just dont let GTO try to arm wrestle you for your fly rods.

GTO, will teach you the river. Your real learning will be up here with me for steelhead. Like COLD da man, said, all you need for the river and Erie are cheap lines. River ruins them with scum and Erie kills them on ice and slate.
It's pretty simple Jay. Learn to roll cast and you pretty much got any situation covered for both situations. You don't need to learn to cast pretty until you start dry fly fishing.

MO handed me a fly rod last year and said "have fun buddy".  You're lucky you get a lesson, all I had was a hangover from beer, cherry juice, and Girard Dinor
