turkey chasing a pheasant

Driving home from work last night scoping out the fields for saturday to get an idea where the turkey are i found a flock. i stayed and watched to see where they were headin, when they started acting wierd. one bird in the flock would attack something and back off and an other bird would do the same thing. so i got the glasses out. It was a ring neck pheasant. The pheasant would run about 10 yards and hunker down in the grass and then the turkeys would go and surround it each taking turns jumping on the pheasant beatin on it.. and then the pheasant would get away and the same thing again... this happened five times and then i couldnt see what happened after that because they all went into the woods.

I was in awe while watching this.. i have seen turkeys after each other. but for them to all be after a pheasant like that? and it all seamed organized, each taking turns beating on it...

Has anyone else ever come accross this before? The only thing i can think why it was happening was establishing a pecking order.

any thoughts or comments?

Never seen that before. If they were toms and it was a rooster I would think it would be pecking order.

I saw a deer chasing a rabbit once.  Honest to goodness, they went in the woods, they when came back out the rabbit was chasing the deer.  There was no attacking here, just playing it appeared.  It was a young fawn in late summer.

I saw a sasquatch chasing a cougar, that was chasing a coyote. I heard the PGC, car insurance companies, and the audubon society stocked all three to eliminate the deer herd. Now, since there arent any deer, they're after each other.

Lets see how far this rumor goes......I bet the unified sportmen of PA will eat it up.
