Feb 16-17-18

Hi  Guys
Made a  trip up early Wed the 15th and got to fish LFZ in the afternoon. Temp in high 30s low water and lots of guys. Parking lots up top pretty full. PLENTY of fish in LFZ most everyone had multiple hook-ups and there were lots of guys.
Thursday the 17 th was in the mid 40s still lots of guys and still lots of fish. Nice day sunny out too. Then a drizzel started but the fish continued. Wish that Warden had come back -you know how it can get there. Some guys line hit the water and it sounded like they were using muzel loader balls for weights. Sometimes used one # 20 and  most often  one smaller than that.
Today drizzel in early AM.  Looked like shark season  there were so many guys at LFZ and again most all had multiple hookups. Parking lots up top full.
Lower river looked pretty clear today and it seemed that there was more water there than up top cause of the melt and runoff.
Talked to a Game Warden at LFZ Wed and made sure all was legal. I see what Drake meant- real nice guy and very informative.  Stuck with the one leader and used a variety of small to large flies in various colors- All produced but the most consistent hookups were on smaller stuff around #12- variety of colors.
Thanks for all the tips guys, did OK a couple of weeks ago and great this time- learning curve continues..
Dime -that tapered weight forward floating line definately makes a difference. Overall a real great trip.

    Nice report RT..

Yup - I'd say 95% of the DEC Officers are level-headed folks with both their feet planted on the ground. Every encounter I ever had with one was informative and pleasurable.

I give you kudos for sticking it out at the crowded zoo.

I hear the DEC is sponsoring a Chuck&Duck 12-Step program for the LFZ hardcores that can't shake that moneky off their back...

    Dime,
I ended up with a Cabelas brand. I shop there quite a bit cause I have their credit card and get points- Free stuff.
There were lots of years I  went up in Spring for steel and never connected- never thought Winter fishing would be so darned good. Guess I'm stuck with a new sport.

great to hear retired. winter steel is my favorite...and despite the increase in pressure the past 10-15 years for winter steel; there still is plenty of open water most of the time...
