Okay my two cents..... really...... you guys are worried about smallies in Elk, I'm not a big bass fisherman, but yea once in awhile I'll fish for them (NOT THERE). When gas hits $5.00 a gallon this summer you guys will have it made and have it all to yourself again this summer, us guys South of the "Gates of Fish Heaven" will have to fish unworthy water like the Allegheny River near Franklin and Kennerdale, OOOOO no I let that out..... what I'm going to do???? And yes I do catch fish in the river.......

i do understand the concerns about spot burning, though i will have no impact of the erie bass fishery. years ago, and i mean many years ago, i fished two adjoining points at pymatuning for spring run walleyes. there were about 7 or 8 guys who knew about this spot and we all did extremely well in march and april. this was before the internet, but word did get out and soon the hordes arrived. the last time i was there, i counted 37 anglers strung out between these two points. more power to them, it was not mine and it was not going to remain a secret. it belonged to everyone and to no one. the last time there, i was given looks, as i waded out to my customary spot, that i did not belong. i wanted to tell everyone i was one of the originals, but i gave up the ghost and found new spots.

after a few years of intense pressure on these points, the catch became pitiful and the waders faded away. a great spot for memories was reduced to just that, a memory. i am sure that is what happened to the tribs and the crowds that appear each fall.

point is (blah, blah, blah...sorry) but times change and we usually create that change. i can understand the way a bunch of guys feel about spot-burning, but inevitably, if the fishing is good, the word gets out.

imo, pms are a great way to share info.....just sayin.

I'll spot burn right now. There is an awesome spot on Elk that always fishes well when the smallies are in: Stretch from 90 south about a mile. Preferably fished from the east bank.

When do the mudpuppies run? Do they hit Blue Powerbait?

I don't doubt for a minute, that lot's of folks from S. central pa. will go past the Juniata, and Raystown lake. Just to drive 4-5 hours to fish Elk for Smallies

Rystown Lake, definately.  Juniata River, doubtful.  To fish the Big Pond for smallmouth.

I can catch 30+ smallies in a day right in my back yard....however when you throw in the element of avg. fish in the 4lb range with chances of 5 to 7lbers likely; THAT changes everything! IMO, well I think its pretty safe to say theres no better fishing in the world for big/many walleye and smallmouth bass than there is on Lake Erie. No-where

Thats another subject all together, stick with the smallmouth bass first, then when you hear the bell, go to walleye class down the hall..........

I'm sorry but the western basin is better for walleye and the eastern basin is better for smallies. The PA section of the lake is nice but not the best

Who ever even mentioned anything about the PA or any specific section of Erie? I was talking about Lake Erie in general....If you fish it enough, you'd know that at specific times of the year, various sections fish better than others due to migrations. Especially for walleye....smallies, on the other hand, are hard to beat when fishing from Presque Isle to Buffalo Harbor anytime/anywhere in the world.

You definitely don't have to leave PA, buddy. lol  Trust me.
And it all starts right here in the beginning of May.  I can only dream we could fish them before that(so most head to PC in April for the jig bite).
PC is a dead sea in July/Aug...unless catching 3-yr old dinks on the "Fence" is your cup of tea.

Much to learn, young Jedi.

All bout timing. I'd rather fish Ohio in spring and fall for walleyes.

Come summer I'm not in Ohio, instead on the Allegheny or French chasing bass and eyes, plus local lakes like Tamarack, Kahle, Woodcock Creek and starting to fish Pymatuning more and more. Usually take a trip or two to Erie to fish with the perch pack

I skinned and filleted pheasants for those guys so that they had feathers to tie flies with.  I am not about to do the same for them with walleyes.
