what length spinning rod.........

.......do you folks prefer for throwing hardbaits, such as rapalas and surface plugs?

i've always used 6 or 6.5 foot long rods for spin fishing. for my next rod though i think i want something longer like a 7 footer, that way i can cast a bit further and cover more water.

i have read and heard that a 7 footer will allow you longer casts than a 6'6" rod and have no doubts about it. i do wonder if the casts are that much longer to warrant buying another rod. i sure hope so.

I use a Fenwick Fenglass 2 piece 7'6", 4-10 # line, 1/4 t0 1/2 oz. Seems to work well for me.

i stay with the 6'6" rod due to the fact that i fish close quarters at times, especially casting under trees and such. when wading for eyes and smallies, the fish invariably get closer to me as the sun begins to set, so the longer casts are not always necessary. that being said, there is something really nice about the longer rods.

ready, i looked long and hard and could not find a moderate action spinning rod but never did find one. the cranks i use are shallow runners and short lipped varieties such as floating raps and shallow shad raps so the fast action is good enough, i suppose.
