I say go for it. What have you got to loose? You may really enjoy fishing with a fly rod. Who knows, you may even get to the point were you start to tie up some flies. That is were it really starts to get fun.
How did the person who invented the first clock know what time it was?

Couldn't agree more. Their hard to fish for in the sense you have to find them, tough casts with trees and laurel, but short casts, and also searching in wild terrain. but if you find them, they crush dries. I had a stellar day on a fourth of July weekend catching 40+ fish one evening on drys, while a buddy caught 15+ on rooster tails. They were all less than 7 inches, but still a blast. Went back to that same stream a few other times and got skunked or just a few fish. Supposedly they migrate. Anybody else have this happen? ORIGINAL: bigfoot

If I can get a photo to upload, I will. You are correct, it is a little challanging to duplicate without a recipe, I know it took me a while to get an acceptable copy that looked and fished right. I will dig out the fly boxes and see if I can post one of my versions.

Usually at this point in the year, I just go out for fresh air. Sometimes I'll take a rod & reel along, but just as often, I tote the camera. If I do fish, its big ugly streamers in larger water, and gaudy little winged wets in smaller trickles.

hm, meadow run fingerlinger or were you on an actual wild stream? If the latter, fish for the brooks at this time of year.... wild bows are just starting spawn, unlike browns and brooks.

not trying to be harsh, nice fish, but dang dude, keep them in the water at least. pinch your barbs, twist, and release without touching or removing from water.
