Orvis Waders

I'm going through one the biggest hassles I've ever gone through with fishing equipment. I use to have L.L. Bean waders that I never had any problems with and about 3 years down the road they started leaking, I called they said that they would replace them but they discontinued my wader, but would give me waders of and equal value. Unfortuanatly I did not like the new styles, so they refund my money. I ended up putting the money towards a new pair of Orvis XT Tailwaters. I've had them for 6 months and they start leaking through the seam, I sent them back 3 1/2 weeks ago, and they still haven't done anything with them, I feel that they should be replaced with a new pair, but they said if they can fix them, they would before they replace them, I've since ****ed quite abit, and wont have my wader for the first trip up to Erie this year. Luckaly I have a friend that is not going and is allowing me to use his.

My whole point is how can a company like Orvis, expect fishermen to be without there waders for over a month. I really don't understand how they think that is a legit time frame.

They should've done something by now.  That stinks.

Did you get them at an Orvis Dealer? I work for an Orvis shop and we had a similar response from Orvis recently, with XTs, and we put our foot down and got a new pair sent in a week.

Yeah I got it from a dealer, and I even called them before I sent them back to see if it would be quicker for me to go through them, hoping they had some pull but the said no that 5 weeks is the norm............Sickning!

An answer to your problem, buy Simms....  Seriously, I would think Orvis would have a better turn around time than that.  That stinks.  One thing I have done over the years is to have a back up pair of waders just in case I have a problem.  That way if something goes wrong, I can send off one pair and still be able to fish.

Of course, a totally different strategy is to not buy expensive waders and get cheap ones and when they start to leak, pitch them and buy new ones.

BTW - I do have a pair of Simms G3's and they have given me two good seasons, and I am on my third.  I will keep my fingers crossed that they will last.

    Sculpin 14,

Sorry to hear of your bad experience with Orvis... I purchased their hip boots and wading shoes a few years ago and have been very happy with them.  I'd suggest you send a letter/email to their President, Ray McCready... include/copy/paste your posting and maybe that will speed things up!

    Good luck,

Have 2 pair of Simms - one bought as backup 5 years ago & never had to use them yet. Fish almost every week. Can't say enough about Simms. As for service - never needed it. Couldn't make it 5 weeks without waders.  Dave

I had great success with Simms.  I developed a leak after I feel on a beaver chewed stick(ouch).  Not only did Simms fix them without a cost, but they gave me a loaner pair to wear until my waders were ready.  Simms are the best and only I'll ever own.

I bought LL bean west branch for alaska & wore them
for 18 days, after 10 days they started to leak, not enough
to stop wearing them but to let the top of your sock get
damp, when I came home they gave me a refund & said they were
having a problem with them. I have my dan baileys that are great
but I like the bootfoot style like the LL bean west branch waders.
hope to find a new wader soon, do noy like being with one pair &
I was going to look at orvis but 5 weeks turn around s BAD
