Anyone standing in a river fishing in these temps is crazy IMHO :)
Wake me when it's 20+ and then give me some sun!

Just remember, in scientific terms-there is no such thing as cold-only an absence of heat! I don't think this helps, but I'm trying.

I ice fished this afternoon for a couple of hours. 14deg slight breeze sunny.

I got my hands a little wet handling the metal ladel with bare hands.

I suffered frostbite in three fingers years ago, and they lit up with the Jack Frost BURN...

With each passing year, my hands get more sensitive to the cold.
My fingers have just turned back to fleshtone from dead grey.

As others noted, it has to be at least in the 20's for me to river fish anymore.

Got that finger tip thing myself. Dont know if its poor circulation ( smoked too much) or old bite. Either way it hurts like heck.
Had to hold one in the current for a while to revive  it a couple of weeks ago in LFZ with bare hands- thought Id cry.

The only 2 ways I know to do that are

1-- sit in a heated car for a while then return to fishing
2- do the NORMAL thing and go stoke up the woodstove

Im one of those unfortunate individuals who often works in the raw elements.... the only benefit is tolerance for winter steel:) btw im heading up next weekend for a 3 day weekend til monday. Im taking up a very eager friend of mine who has had 3 unsuccessful trips. Some other buddies of mine may be coming up as well. Im looking forward to it.

Hey Dime, Good Luck to you and your buddies. Sometimes it is more rewarding to put someone with less experience on fish than catching them all yourself. That is the way it is when I fish with my wife or boys.I too work in the elements and it never seems as bad on the water. Those chemical packs really help.Keep us posted, I won't be up until mid February.Had some success at Trestle last time up if that helps.
