Are the shad ruining 2011 season at Presque Isle?

I like to think I catch more than my fair share of fish through the ice, I've been at it for most of my 56 years.

This invasion of shad is the only reason I can think of that my regular spots aren't producing...it doesn't matter where you go, cut some holes and shad are everywhere.

What a waste of the short time we have to ice fish. Reckon I'll have to try Pymatuning and Simcoe runs every other week....

    i definately agree...i have never seen anything like this... i was thinking that the big thaw we had was to blame...or a combination of both

    forgot to ask...was thinkig about pyma next weekend with my nephew...can you offer any insight to areas, depths, techniques, as we are both virgins to fishing there

    Yeah, I got off to a good start before the New Years weekend rain and warm weather - a couple good days anyway.

    I have never ice fished Pymatuning, in fact, rarely open water fished it.

    I have read that for ice fishing, a Pa license is good for the whole body of water. I'm just gonna have to explore down there - I'm more inclined to drive the 4 1/4 hours (dry roads) to Simcoe.

    I've never seen it this bad before, someone from frisk cat foods needs to come up here and make cat food out of those things
