Herdford Mannor Lake ?
I heard an unoffical rumor that just surfaced at a local bait shop, that the lake was going to be stocked with trout for the winter and this extended March season. Has anybody else heard this and able to confirm ?

Mika Yeah, I know that is is scheduled for removal, plus with Brady's Run out of the equation this year, Beaver County is going to be a mess. But I heard a rumor just yesterday that it was added for a winter stocking this year, I know it's just a rumor but was trying to see if anybody else heard the same thing.

I would really doubt they are going to stock a lake that has all creel restrictions removed from it. They are trying to get fish out of it, not put them in.

Yep it's a go sometime in March. The fish Commission has done dumber things in the past but stocking one last time is a good thing I guess. Then it's to be down sized into a pond until monies are avalible for a total rebuild. Contact your local legislator and tell them to rebuild this project quickly. It's our kids future for fishing !

March 5th they're stocking trout and putting the creel limit back in to 5 fish per day. One of the fish commissioner brought in a paper that says such and posted it at "Wills" bait store. That's nice, but what a fiasco this lake has become.

Thats good, but I was hoping for some fish for ice fishing. But at least the early season guys will have another option other than Racoon. Also there is fish going into Brush Creek lake this year. It's small but another option since Brady's is closed this year.

It's in North Sewickly right in Brush Creek park off of Rt 588, between the old drive in and Fombell. It's a small lake, only 8 acres, but the F&B Comm is putting in some trout for opening day. It usually holds bass, panfish and some carp. I caught a few browns in it a few years ago when a local sportsman clun put in 500 fish. But it hasn't been stocked by the state in years.

No, there are no houses there. I think I know where you are talking about, it's not far from there if you are talking about the same place. The two ponds you're thinking of are private. Here is a map of Brush creek park. The small pond is on there if you look close. I haven't heard anything about them stocking it with trout, but I'd take Jeb's word for it. It's a small/shallow pond. http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl Oops don't think the link is going to work . if you click the link, then search "Brush Creek County Park, Beaver Falls, PA" it will work As for Brush creek, it's been polluted so many times I won't even attempt to fish it. When we were kids we used to fish the stretch from rt 989 downstream to Green valley park (just upstream of rt 68). It WAS loaded with smallmouth then. We'd easily catch 50 to 100 a day. Most were small 8 to 10", but we always caught a few 15" to 18". That creek had more crayfish than anyplace I've ever seen. This was actually after it had been polluted the first time, think it was Chemlawn. Since it was polluted by the water treatment plant in Cranberry, I haven't been back(they've done it like 3 times in the last 15 years).

Still is right, that creek is loaded with crayfish, minnows for bait too. My neighbor and I were probably in that creek 200 days a year when I was little catching snakes, crayfish, and minnows. My buddy actually was the one that called the cops when Chemlawn spilled. He went down to swim and saw all kinds of fish dead. It's still a great place to take a kid fishing for bait. My four year old will sit there with me for an hour and catch as many chubs and shiners as we need. He's still a little slow catching the crayfish, but at least he's not afraid to get pinched!

Brush Creek County Park

Brush Creek Lake is a small shallow lake ( 1.8 acres) within the Beaver County park as stillhead suggested . I used to fish it when I was 10-12 about 18-20 years ago back then there many bluegill and some nice sized largemouth to be had . In fact there were so MANY bluegill the fishes growth rate was stunted due to lack of forage ( most gills around 4-5inches) but the panfish provided excellent forage for the largemouth LOL... I would imagine it has filled in quite a bit so doubt it is as good as it used to be unless they dredged it . I remember many weeds in the summer so fish it in the spring still should be good numbers of pan fish and an excellent choice to take a kid fishing . I also remember many folks riding horses out there . I refuse to believe they are wasting trout in that lake it certainly isnt over 6-8 foot deep ; they have NO chance make it through winter as they used to at Brady's Run and Hereford ......... DC Directions Directions to Brush Creek Park Hazen, PA From North - New Castle/Ellwood City Take Route 65 South. Make a left onto Route 588 to the main entrance of the park. From South and West Take Route 65 North. Make a right onto Route 588 to the main entrance of the park.

I live right on Brush Creek and grew up around here as well. Back in the day we used to ride our bikes to Green Valley Park and catch Smallmouth like crazy. I remember in the 80 Brush Creek was stocked with trout for awhile. That soon ended with Cranberry getting built up and the plant dumping into it as well as the Chemlawn incident. It's still a nice lil place to catch some chubs and a few little bass. Nothing like it used to be though. That creek hold so many memories with me its not even funny. Caught my first Muskrat on that creek, shot my first doe by that creek and on and on and on. The park lake is tiny and is pretty **** shallow. It's REALLY weedy too.

thanks to all for the directions. Maybe they could just open the lake for kids 12 and under (with a parent or guardian who has a paid fishing license or exemption from this requirement due to income levels) on opening day to try to get their interest. I can see the meat eaters hauling them in and yelling and cursing (F _ _ _ Y _ _, this space is mine; Look at the M _ _ _ _ _ F _ _ _ _ _ _ fish I just caught) standing or sitting around this small area and feeling like their great fishermen!

Harrisburg, PA – Tomorrow's special "Opening Day" on the Hereford Manor Lakes in Beaver County has been postponed because the lakes remain covered with ice. The Fish and Boat Commission had planned to stock the lakes with trout to give anglers one last opportunity to fish before the lakes are drawn down in spring in anticipation of breaching the dams. The PFBC will attempt to stock the lakes next Saturday, March 12. The Hereford Manor Lakes are popular fishing and boating impoundments located in Franklin Township, Beaver County. The dams were constructed prior to 1958 in conjunction with strip mining operations and were acquired by the PFBC in 1973. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s Division of Dam Safety has declared both dams as “high hazard, structurally deficient†structures which must be rebuilt. Breaching the dams is the first phase of the project and is expected to be completed by November. The mission of the Fish and Boat Commission is to protect, conserve, and enhance the Commonwealth’s aquatic resources and provide fishing and boating opportunities. More open water today around shore line. Saw 1 guy fishing.Seems dumb to stock trout after a no fish limit was announced. More wasted money. Noticed trees being cut down already. Ashame this lake is going to disappear. I also think it's pretty good that the lake and property were donated to the PFBC years back and now will be sold to line the pockets of the PFBC. If some environmental group was to find an endangered lizard species or something there, the lake would remain. Soon Pa fishing youths will be the endanger species in Pa thanks to projects like this one.

I like the way the fish commission thinks ahead. They must have figured that since Herford is closing this year that it would be a good idea to stock Big sewickley creek on March 1st so that when it flooded(as in now) it would sweep all of the trout into the river, making another spot for people to fish on opening day. But seriously, what is the point of stocking any stream in March that isn't open to fishing till mid April. Seems like wasted money to me. Not to mention stocking beside a heron rookery(sp?). Glad I switched to crappie fishing instead of trout.
