Trolling Motor Suggestions

Hey Everyone,

I'm in the market for a new trolling motor. I was going to go with a Minn Kota again but I had issues with my last one. Any suggestions?

Stay away from Motorguide, I like my Minn Kota never had any problems with them except when one flipped down while running 46 and it shattered the shaft and bent the shaft, Minn Kota fixed it for free as a one time coutesy repair! Thanks Minn Kota/Canon/?

I have had the cable foot controlled MK and MG and never had problems with either. I'm now using a 80lb Minn Kota Terrova with I pilot and it works great. We also have a transom mounted MK and no problems with it either. I think you will find its like Ford vs Chevy as far as the two are compared.

I have a 42# MK on the transom (runs well but I don't like the 5 forward speed settings on it).  3 and 4 are too close together and 4 and 5 are too far apart.  I burn up too much battery sometimes.  Other than that, runs well.  I replaced an older 30# MK with the newer one and still have the 30#.

Up front, I have an old school Johnson 50# 12/24 V foot control that came on the boat when I bought it and it is still running strong.

I do alot of trolling for eyes with just an electric.
Minn Kota 50lb thrust with the Maximizer for longer battery life and infinite speed conrol (No set speeds.)

The Terrova I mentioned also uses a hand held fob to control motor anywhere in or out of the boat. Jus sayin...

I like the composite shaft on the MinnKota vs the steel shaft on the Motorguide. I have a Minn Kota on my current boat and had them on my 3 prior boats. No problems at all. Well, one problem, but it was covered under warranty. Bow mounts offer better control over transom mounts. The whole pull vs push thing.

depends on the boat. I dont think the original post specified what type of boat.
