Allegheny River Walleye and Sauger

It's cold but the fish are biting. Vertical jigging with a minnow seems to be working well. Same spots as usual from a boat. Guy told me today the colder it got the more fish he caught. We managed 6 eyes and sauger today in a couple hours.

That's good news, I'm sure your presentation is alittle slower too because of the cold weather. I think i'm going to wait until the Lake freezes over alittle more. I'm thinking wedsnesday it should be more solid.

Wow, it really shot up the last couple of days.  Is the backchannel clear of ice?

I'll be heading out that way tomorrow for work. I will take a gander and let you know. I would assume it is open considering there is only a little bit of edge ice further downstream.

Are you planning on taking the boat out sometime soon?

Water was high on sunday and fast, but not muddy. Just had to fish the break where they were hanging. I looked last night and there was alot of ice chunks coming down, today it looked slushy in spots but not sure.

Walleye ranging 15-22" and Sauger 14-16" I would guess didnt measure any.

If the river comes down some more I might take the boat out.  Just hope a lot of guys don't get the same idea and launch a bunch at the ramp.  I don't have chains and if the ramp gets used too much, I am sure it will ice up....

The river looks like a snowcone and is rapidly making more ice.
