Thanks Ken.  I really didn't like him much though.

He had it coming -- LOL.  The animals were just getting even for all their brethern he has shot over the years.

I was being sarcastic about the moose.  The point was, Lyme disease happens.  Killing deer or moose to get rid of it is not an answer.

He lived and hunted large -- he held the first license by a non-native in two different Canadian providences.

Sorry to hear about that Dar. --
Also just because an animal has the larger ticks on it does not mean the Lyme tick came from that animal- the things are all over the place.
In regard to that INVASIVE subject- looks like there may be a bit of species picking there-what about corn, oats and apples.--I gotta agree about the multi f though ,its great when its young and terrible when it matures.

I hear ya.
Ticks/LD make me very paranoid because I remove aprox. 10/yr off of myself(imbedded).

When I give my mutts their flea/tick treatment monthly, you might think I'm crazy but, I sneak a bit of the meds onto the back of my own neck.
My vet told me that he has hunters that buy Frontline/Advantix for their pets and for themselves.

I got lyme disease once around 30 years ago. But I'm pretty sure it was from too many gin & tonics.

I question whether or not this is possible.
Personally, I drink G&T's to protect myself from malaria. It works too, haven't gotten malaria yet!

Seriously though, I've been lucky with the ticks. Get between 6-12 dog ticks on me a year, but I haven't found a deer tick yet.

For all the time I've spent in the woods over the years I've only ever found 2 imbedded and both were this year. That must really suck living where you have to protect yourself every time you venture out.

Those larger ticks we all get imbedded (specially in spring turkey season) are not the lyme ticks but they are a pain in the butt- not so many the past few years here either.
I tried that dog oil behind my own neck too but it made me try and scratch the back of my head with my foot. My wife made me stop using it when I started to pee on all the trees and shrubs in the yard.

When I lived by Moraine state park, 6 or so years ago, I learned that shorts were a big time no-no in the summer. I went out hiking/fishing twice with shorts on, and both times I had 4 or 5 ticks on me.

There was a spot in Raccoon Creek SP this summer that had a lot of them too. Not a place the public would go very often, but it just seemed like if you even walked near the place you got ticks (multiple, always tickS), on you.

On the flip side, the 2 deer I killed here in 2b didn't have a tick I could see on them, while the one from up by dubois was crawling with them. Those things give me the creeps.
