Best 'yotes are dead 'yotes

Just thought I'd post these up, I know some of you guys like getting after em.
I know a guy that hunts them hard with hounds. He's in his glory after last weekend...
Checked on a new digital scale, in order form top to bottom, 35m, 40f & a 60#m blackie.

check out the neck on that brute...looks almost like a bear cub!

So neat. 60# is very large. I saw one this year. I tried calling to it but not sure it heard me. Had a button buck come by mid-October and head down the mountain following the thermals. It wasn't 15 minutes later 3 yotes started yippin and eventually howling. I think the bb walked right into trouble.

Once the yotes identified the deer as a button buck, they would pass on it.

    That's cool!
This past archery season, I had a very dark/blackish 'yote chase a BB right underneath my stand!  Never gave me a shot and was hauling butt!

Nice black yote! Id only ever seen one black yote in this area, saw it out in a field about 75 yards or better, during spring gobbler about 4 years ago or so. Watched him for awhile with binos. Wanted a nice mount so waited for the fur to prime up that fall. Hunted that area several times callin' trying to get him. Also had bowhunted the area quite a bit that year and next few after. Never saw it again.

So I am guessing you personally verified the accuracy of the scale in question, right?

No, but I've seen enough weighed to know better.  Here are the results of the past several years largest coyote hunt in North America.  I'll let the facts stand on their own.
Maybe only FishUSA posters get the bigguns.

If I had known you couldn't digest anything beyond "no" I would have just agreed it weighs 60#.  I take it you assume all scales are calibrated and fishermen don't lie?

Hope that last statement wasn't directed at me. It was a male, it was 53# 2oz, it was on accurate scales, and it was verified. It also was heavier than any brought in to the local coyote hunt in recent years. I have heard of a couple larger but none before at 60#.

Well I am pretty sure those that assessed the weight(s) would classify as hunters not fishermen; don't ya think?

Seriously, wipe your tears and lower your internet cop badge. It is only a coyote and a dead one at that.

Why would you wish such a thing??

Tull, this wasn’t posted to cause a big controversy, although I guess I should have known it would when I put weights up.
I’m not going to argue the weight with you, you're probably right.
But I would like to make a couple points...just for grinz.

"The eastern coyote can be found in all of the state's 67 counties. Next to the black bear, it is Pennsylvania's largest wild predator weighing in at 35 to 55 pounds. Adult males have exceeded 60 pounds. They roam our big woods and suburban areas and everything in-between."

    ^
From here (game comish source, sorry):
    http://www.biggamehunt.net/news/coyote-hunting-pennsylvania

"Coyotes typically grow to up to 30–34 in (76–86 cm) in length, not counting a tail of 12–16 in (30–41 cm), stand about 23–26 in (58–66 cm) at the shoulder and, on average, weigh from 15–46 lb (6.8–21 kg) .[5][13] Northern coyotes are typically larger than southern subspecies, with the largest coyotes on record weighing 74¾ pounds (33.7 kg) and measuring over five feet in total length.[14]"

    ^
    From here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coyote
    (I know, wiki-hearsay)

    And this (another game commish source, sorry) but at least they contradict each other;
The eastern coyote is a member of the canid, or dog family. It is larger than its western cousin - typically attributed to wolf-coyote hybridization - and usually has one of four pelt colorations: tri-color (German shepherd-like), red, blond and dark brown (appears black at a distance). Adult males weigh 45 to 55 pounds; females, 35 to 40 pounds. When seeing one for the first time, many people mistake eastern coyotes for dogs. Look for black lines running up and down the front of the front legs, yellow eyes and a cylindrical-shaped, low-hanging tail. Adult coyotes are much larger than foxes, and they tend to travel trails, dirt roads and habitat edges.

I'll let the facts stand on their own.

    Or will you??

    ORIGINAL: tull66
I take it you assume all scales are calibrated and fishermen don't lie?

I’d never assume either of those things, but can assure you the hunter who killed the two males is not a liar. If I was to nominate someone for PA sportsman of the year, this is him. He’s a stand up guy that is as honest as they come. There’s always a chance your internet eye-scale is more accurate than his new digital hang-on scale. I’m sure his scale could be off a pound or two, but this was the biggest yote I’ve ever seen.

    Wait a minute....ok...I’ve got it...
    The weights were, 20#, 25#, and 34#.
    Do you feel better now?

    Merry Christmas.

Pork, don't misunderstand me.  My post was "your buddy needs a new scale".  I didn't call him or you a liar.  I know from experience what coyotes weigh.  I've been hunting them way before it was cool to.  I posted actual weights from a PA coyote contest for last year.  The site has all the weights for the past 5,6,7 years.  Just for grinz, I think that is the best source for the true weight of PA coyotes rather than wikipedia, biggamehunt.net, etc.  Merry Christmas!
