Joeseph, a first year hunter, killed his first buck Monday morning while hunting with us... 200 yard, high shoulder-shot with his .243 put the young 8-point down in his tracks! It was a great experience, watching his reaction when we walked up to the deer, teaching him about the tagging process, walking him through gutting his first deer. It was priceless! Ironhed

Good one Ironhed. I wasn't too excited about mine...until I got it up to the house for the boy to poke in the eye... You'd think I shot bulwinkle by his reaction! lol .243, 140 yds, 4 on the right, 2 on left (broke off) Hung & skun by 9:15...my earliest finish yet.

"Any Pic's of 2010 gun kills?" No. But heres a pic of the buck i killed with my bow the first day of the 2010 gun season. 7.5" longest tines. 4.5" beam circumference. Just over 22" beam length. Weighed it at 182# dressed weight. Both brow tines cracked off from fighting just over an inch up. Congrats to all those who were successful, 'specially the kids.

Here is the picture of the one I got on wenesday. Six point, four on right and two on the left. Thinking it is a three and half yr old. Fifty yard shot at a fast trot in the high shoulder. He nosed dived and spun a half circle. He came in behind six doe, after I shot there was about six or seven other deer that I never seen that were on the other side of the grapevines. Could not tell what they were.

no pics but glad to report my season is officially over. shot a doe and buck in archery and filled my last doe tag monday morning at 8am with my revolver. was pretty excited first kill using the pistol. also saw a 6 point that someone shot the front hoof off monday morning and was surprised no one came through tracking it. every step it took he left a little puddle of blood. probably wasn't a jr hunter.

The kid pictures are always great to see. Ken I'll bet teaching the boy to Field dress a deer was FUN!!! Seen A buddies daughter learn Oh man that was quite interesting to say the least. But she did it and not to bad either. TMILLER I would say you have a 2.5-3.5 there. But thats just what I can see in the pic. WayneC That is a pretty nice buck,But I not sure it weight in @ 182 I could be wrong but the neck and head do not suggest that kind of weight. Congrats to all that harvested

Shouldn't be surprised. Lots of guys say if it doesn't go down from the shot, they don't follow. Dad had a shot below him the first morning, then a buck came by at about 125 yards, then a guy following it. An 8 pt stood 25 yards under dad. The guy that was tracking the other buck saw the 8 pt and took a crack at it and never even came to see if he hit it. An old landlord of mine said he rolled a buck once up where I hunt but it wasn't laying there so he left. Probably happens more often than we'd like to think.
My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.

PA buck season is 4.5 days old and we have 340 views of a thread with 4 bucks. If this doesn't illustrate the sad state of PA deer hunting, well, nothing probably will. Congratulations to all the successful guys, especially the juniors. I'm not sure who looks happier, Joseph or little Pork! I remember getting pretty fired up when Dad got home from deer hunting. If he didn't get a deer, I enjoyed hearing the stories. (still do!)

Tull, seeing as this is fishing site, with the hunting boards an afterthought, no surprise there. Go to the other "hunting" sites and you will see lots of nice bucks that were harvested, especially the long threads of archery kills, with a few stretching out the PA record books...and on HPA, the girl from near Danville that got a HUGE one.... Good luck to those heading out tomorrow that haven't scored yet. Should be a great day.

"That is a pretty nice buck,But I not sure it weight in @ 182 I could be wrong" Yep. You're wrong. I dont make wild arse guesses at deer weights, and if i had, i certainly wouldnt have guessed it down to the nearest pound at "182" lol. I weigh every single one we kill right before I butcher 'em. While my scale may be off a pound one way or the other, but it aint off much. It weighs me the same as the bathroom scale, and ive also tested it with 45 lb steel weight plates. Ive also handled quite a few bucks from 165 to 200 lb dressed weight through the years, mine and others kills. Bucks 3.5+ and even at times 2.5 can get some repectable weights down here unlike the mountains usually ... b] " but the neck and head do not suggest that kind of weight. " The neck muscles were probably "stretched" from me dragging it 1000 yards over rough terrain most likely.lol It was also a very "long" deer. It wasnt a thin neck at all. But its looking a bit longer in the pic.lol. Mine dont get quad rides or picked up with the truck. The size of the neck is actually why the head looks smaller. That and the rack. Its all a matter of how its proportioned and nothing else to go by in the pic. The angle of the pic also belies the head size. Its alot larger than it appears. While genetically, the muzzle wasnt extremely long as with most bucks from that localized area, The forehead was disproportionately wide which also makes it appear "shorter", kinda reminds me of some of the bucks you see from the dakotas. But in all honesty, in looking at the pic, i can fully understand why you'd say that.[/

"Great bucks guys, esp. Wayne with the bow kill in rifle season. Nice!" Thanks, its not my first gun season archery buck of my career, but i really dont prefer to let unfilled tag go past archery season. I usually lower my standards at the end and just fill the tag last week of archery so i can sit with or drive for some of the kids in our group during rifle. Left it go a bit too long this year. Worked out ok though i guess. But i dont care to rifle hunt. Nothing against those who enjoy it, i just love the bow, and unless i become physically unable to pull one, you'll probably never see me carry a rifle unless im predator hunting or groundhog. Though once in a blue moon ive been know to go with the flinter after christmas. "Even though you are miserable, I gotta tell ya, great buck!" Um, thanks, i think. lol.

how is that meaningless? its all about the overall harvest rate right??? if more guys are succesfully in archery, the regular gun season will look "bad"

Here some deer pictures. They are public land deer. First day by a local camp. This one was fun. Heard lots of shooting this evening late so figured I'd check it out. On the way, ran into the WCO, and let her know there was lots of shooting. We pull up and I asked the guy standing on the bank if they shot at all. He said very nervously ... "I don't think so" Hmm.. ok There's another guy standing on the ridge that appeared to be heading down to us and had stopped. WCO asked if he was from their crew and the guy said "I think so, maybe" ok .. that's enough. WCO headed up, took the 4 pt and some info. d-bags. Amish shot this buck tonight. They shot maybe 10 times. They usually get more than that. Maybe they are going to get the rest tomorrow. So they say they missed on twice this ones size. Tomorrow should be a slaughter day in south central.
My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.

Even for you, I must say this is an all-time low in the reading comprehension department. Do you understand what I means? To reiterate just for you; MY observations were that my friends, relatives, co-workers, and local archery shop dwellers were, for the most part very happy with the outcome of this years season. It was a response to a generalized, unfounded comment stating that deer hunting in PA is "sad." In the context of the comment, I don't see how my personal experience doesn't qualify as meaningful. So let me ask you this; why is always about numbers with you? Don't you already have enough numbers to misrepresent your views?
