important question

i made a really immature lapse of judgement today and shot a squirll in a safety zone, just curious as to weather or not im gonna lose my license , and no i wasn entirely dumb and shooting towards the building but i just wonder what my hunting fate is... im perfectly alright with paying a fine for i did break the law but just hope i can hunt , hunting is the only reason i postponed my trip to the military so without i pretty much have wasted my own time

    Sec. 2505. Safety zones.

    (a) General rule. - Except as otherwise provided in this title or to any political subdivision, its employees or agents, which has a valid deer control permit issued under section 2902(c) (relating to special categories of permits), it is unlawful for any person, other than the lawful occupant, while hunting game or wildlife, taking furbearers of any kind, or pursuing any other privilege granted by this title, to hunt for, take, trap, pursue, disturb or otherwise chase any game or wildlife or to discharge, for any reason, any firearm, arrow or other deadly weapon within or through a safety zone, or to shoot at any game or wildlife while it is within the safety zone without the specific advance permission of the lawful occupant thereof.

    (b) Penalty. - A violation of this section is a summary offense punishable by a fine of not less than $200 nor more $500. A second or subsequent offense within two calendar years is a summary offense punishable by a fine of not less than $500 nor more than $1,000.

    (c) Definition. - As used in this section the term "safety zone" means:

    (1) Except as otherwise provided in paragraph (2), the area within 150 yards around and that area which is below the highest point of any occupied dwelling house, residence, or other building or camp occupied by human beings, or any barn, stable, or other building used in connection therewith or any attached or detached playground of any school, nursery school or day-care center.

Maybe ask the PGC. If yes maybe the judge will go easy on you and reduce your penalty after you admit you were wrong and now realize it.

Sounds like a mess, picking up road kill with gun and all? Only 10 days until the opener though, if fines and or loss of license are penalty, maybe it won't be till after opening day of deer season? Good luck....

Did you have a permit for the roadkill ?

My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.

You couldn't have just NOT SHOT THE SQUIRREL IN HER YARD?

WTF is wrong with you man?
You think that someone, who is admittably unable to resist a little temptation, should be allowed to hunt?

I'm betting smally hunter is very young. As we can see he has made a bad decision while hunting. After paying his fine I'm sure he will learn from his mistake. Putting him down shows that you are less of a man to criticize such a young unexperienced hunter.Rather than teach and educate young hunters you choose to criticize them. You deserve an award for your help with young outdoorsman.

    I don't think smally is a youngster....

and besides.. don't they teach about safety zones in hunter ed... even if he is only 16 he has to have had that training... ???

talks about buying property to rent, going to school, going to the military, and even posted this statement..

    no sympathy from me........

im slowly learning to be way more selective with my shooting

He isnt a kid.  Would you like a jump to conclusions mat? A lot of 12YO join the Marines?

    Retract this, oK/

BTW, I take youngsters out squirrel hunting, and rabbit hunting over my beagle every january.  You could too, if you weren't too busy stewing over the PGC/USKP.

If someone can't control themself over a squirell in a safety zone, they should not be hunting no matter how old they are.

    1. 18 ... not young not old ...
    2. no sympathy needed by any i simply asked a question to find out what kind of damage i was in for
    3. aside from a single lapse in judgement , i hunt legally and know how to make the right decisions ...
    4. if every last single person that has bashed me has never done something illegal well congratulations to you, bash me all you want, its not like i was shooting a deer off my back porch , or sitting over a bait pile, or taking a gun with me spotting i do none of these things.
    5. i simply use this site for advice, since ive been a member i have taken much that has been said from the select people that dont start arguements and have advanced my knowledge of hunting tenfold...

and last but not least , as a young adult knowing that i made the mistake i also know that no one will pay for my mistake but my own self...  i accept responsibility of my actions and know that i WONT do it again ... and i will gladly continue to hunt... someday even teaching my own kids the outdoors ... hunting and fishing are my life just because i made one dumb **** mistake im not gonna change anything ...

so if people feel i shouldn be hunting thats your opinion and its a valued one at that.. but unfortunately i have no plan of stopping i simply enjoy it wayy to much to quit

Another part that smally left out was that 2 locally police officers showed up & b4 talkin to the wcos they said "is that the deer that was laying down at the intersection?" & as they were talkin to us another police officer came over the radion "looks like that lil deer at the intersection got picked up." the same intersection that we picked it up not even 15 mins b4. i kno this is about a squirrel but they were bound & determined that one of us poached the deer & they were goin to get us for that... say wat u will but it ain't gonna change our feelings towards the matter at hand. it was stupid but hey like smally said if uve never broken a game law good for u... but chances are that if u say u have ur probly a liar!

its not like i was shooting a deer off my back porch

    nothing illegal about doing that...

hunting/shooting in a safety zone is ILLEGAL though....

if you had had permission to be hunting on the private property for the complex in the first place you may not have been fined/lose license in the first place...

hunting in a safety zone is a SERIOUS violation in my book.... someone could get killed....

it's not like not wearing enough orange or bright enough orange on your head or forgetting to plug a shotgun, forgettting your license..

I would NEVER think to say that a person who states he/she has not broken a game code law is a liar...

I'll go out on a limb and say 70-75% of our hunters have not broken those laws.... especially the ones over 40....
