Chum Chum and more Chum

Howdy all first off...new here and love fishing/hunting....heck I just love the outdoors.  I took my brother in law for the first time to Elk...down by the flats.  I was with a good buddy too, that has steelhead blood in his veins.  We have had great weekends for the last 5 times.  Hit the hole at 6:30...figured a nice quick hookup for my bro in law would get him hooked and the blood flowing.  Nothing...we were using a rig we always catch on when most are not.  After about 20 min, a few guys came down...and hit the same hole.  I kept hearing stuff hitting the water...I was watching them more than my float.  They kept tossing in hand fulls of eggs (I think) in the water and then casting.  I had a guy on each side doing this. After about 150 eggs...it got old.  When you look at it logicaly it does not make much sense...you may get lucky...and that is all it does...give you more luck.  These fish are already skittish, the water is low and they are ducking around my 4lb flouro.  We left the hole a few min after, it got old and I thought it was inconsiderate.  We hit another hole further down and had a few hookups.

I think you have better odds floating one egg down instead of a 1 in 30 chance.  Plus after a few times they start seeing a pattern and bite on anything but eggs (and get full).  Also I would never do that in a hole where other people are fishing, or were there first.  Chum on a boat in the lake....not in in a stream...and not at insane levels that everyone around you gets mad.  I do not care if it is leagal or not.  I have been a sportman for many many years...learned from my grandfather...I always make conversation with other fishermen and hunters...that is part of the fun.  If your there just for the kill and could care less about your surroundings etc...your not a sportsman in my book.

Just my 2 cents....even a bad day on Elk creek is a good day.  Have fun all...sorry about spelling and thanks for reading.

Although I do not agree with the chumming, I'm sure you'll get an earful on how it is legal and they have a RIGHT that they got when they bought their liscence to do it..

Aah. A chumming post. That won't stir the pot at all.
While we're in the neighborhood, how does everyone feel about centerpinners.

This equine has been tenderized enough....  Chum if you like, don't chum if you like.  Fish when and where you can, don't break the law and most importantly have a good time.

Good luck when you come up fish.

I don't think it has to do with the LAW etc...  You can hunt anywhere on game lands...but do you put your stand in the tree 10ft from another guy in a tree.  It comes down to being a Sportsmanship, Couth, Consideration and I digress.....

I do love fishing up there, great land....awesome scenery too.  Thanks to all that help each other and dont throw their trash all over.

BTW:  I hate fishing with Skein...just a funny name...too messy to work with.

I have no problem with pinners, I don't like it but to each their own. I never came across a jagoff pinner. However, lawful or not, I find chumming on these streams unsportsmanlike and your experience was down right pathetically rude.

When you say centerpinner, do you mean float fishing?   Drifting a egg down with the current?

Nope, he means those guys that use the big round, fancy reels that most mistake for fly reels...they usually contain some bright form of mono commonly seen pink, orange or bright yellow. They also typically use rods that are very long and noodly, sometimes upwards of fifteen feet in length. However, the true pinner will almost always have splotches of dried up egg goo crystalizing somewhere on either their sleeve or front lower side of jacket. I don't like most pinners either.

I did notice this on Elk creek....did not seem like a fly rod setup I am used too...I just figure I was behind the times.

    Thanks !

MrSkein, Welcome to the boards! Looks like your post has been hijacked. I agree even if it is legal, I don't think someone should walk up to a spot your fish'n and start throw'n eggs. There are alot of Great guy's that fish the streams, but I have never seen so many obnoxious people either.

My Wife said, if I go fish'n one more time, she'll leave me! God, I'm going to miss her!

Not really. The post was about idiots throwing chum in the water. So we started talking about pinners. One in the same guy.
