That should make for a nice full mount for someones end table. Perhaps both cubs would make nice book ends. Nothing wrong with the sow, 180 aint bad. Congrats.

Cubs are legal along with fawn deer, coyote pups and jennys.  Congrats on the harvest.  5 in one camp is a tremendous accomplishment.

As to some of the comments above, pathetic.  Attacking each other is what some strive to do.

The anti's love you guys that attack fellow hunters for using legal weapons, tactics and pricinciples.  Not to mention legal harvests.   We as hunters should be channeling our energies in positive ways.  Sound game management is how hunters and hunting will continue to survive in the future.  Take the time to educate non-hunters on why harvesting fawn deer, young of the year grouse and bears etc... is sound biologically.

This crap of attacking folks for shooting does, young bears etc... is so shortsighted and detrimental to our sport.

after shooting the sow the best thing is to shoot the cubs, they would not survive the winter.  plus they are LEGAL game.  so should all you haters be flogged for the small deer you've shot through the years, that's if you all have ever killed anything.

Yep.

Many cubs are the same size as bear that are entering their second fall.  Here is Gary Alts view on it.  http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09319/1013370-358.stm

Personally, if ya don't want to shoot a obviously very small cub, don't.  If you do, do.  I would support either decision as it is legal.

Apparently deer hunters are supposed to be able to determine if a tine is 1" or less but a bear hunter can't tell the difference between a 30 lb. cub and a 100Lb. yearling. Alt took a bear population that was under control and allowed it to increase to a point where bears are now a nuisance in areas where they didn't exist before and then promoted the exact opposite with the deer herd.

BTW, deer hunters were also instructed to pass on BB based on the presence of buttons that barely broke the hair line while Alt make fun of the PA hunters abilities at the Audubon Deer Conference.

Many of the archery kills are followed up on. Many times the hunters most show a officer where the bear was killed.

Geez. Kinda discriminating against archers eh?? Treating them like criminals! Sounds like a bunch of bull-. If gun hunters dont have to put up with the inconvenience why the hell should archers??? I guarantee you, if i ever decide to go archery bear and get lucky enough to harvest one, I'll be politely declining the unnecessary return trip to the kill site. I dont particularly care for anyone knowing places i hunt anyway. If im in a very good mood i just might provide some basic directions. Then again, i might just forget exactly where i was at. Big mountains ya know.

Hunted Bears in Maine for quite a while over hounds. We self imposed a rule of NO sows with cubs -period. No small stuff either. Just our rule- not throwin stones.
Please dont think dog guys see so many bears they can pick and choose all day- it dont work out that way whatsooooever.
Lots of guys went years without. Then after one most of us just went along for the chase for many years. It was great. We took lots of nice bears and had a ball doing so.
Fishin aint about catching fish and Huntin aint about killing stuff. Ya gotta score once in a while but its NOT the epicenter of the experience...
Feel bad for those guys who gotta get their limit or fill all their tags-they miss the whole point

Hey Tim -
184 is a very nice bear and probably about full grown for a sow. It looked like someone said 270 a few replies back and thats a lot different than 184 -took that right off my post-. PA hunting for bears is tough going. Back when I was there - a lifetime ago up in Warren Co. it was a 2 day season-dont know what they offer today but 2 days was  SHORT.
Good hunting

Well said RG!! That might be why so many favor AR's, the end is more important than the journey getting there.
