5 fish in 4 hours

Took my uncle matt today and try to get him his first steelhead again, this is the third time down with me and the first two times we were skunked. From the bridge in altmar all the way to below the wires before we could find a place to fish, its packed all the way down both sides. Pull the float rods out and start to fish, hook up in 5 minutes nice steelie, fish for another hour uncle matt misses one, decide to move down float thru fraziers and let the rods out at the end of the run cause of the people in there, 5 minutes in rod cracks, uncle matts first steelhead is about a 13 pounder on a metalic green and red hotshot, great fight. Let the rods back out and come around the bend by the road theres people at the end so we keep pluggin another crackdown turns out to be an eight pound brown, she starts spilling eggs as soon as we get her in the boat so we let her go quick. Float down to the muscrat and nobody in there so try there,no dice. float down thru the bovines alot of people in there so pass thru to the top of the snag, hit the left side half way down another crackdown about a 9 or 10 pound steelie, people in the lower end of the snag so we swing behind them and float down past the island and let the rods out again, another crack down a twin of the second one about 12 or 13 pounds. alot of people in the fridge and can so we pretty much blew the rest of the way to the launch. Launched at 8 pulled the boat out at noon, all in all a great day the plug hits were crazy hard.

Salmo - mid river - there are plenty of fish in plenty of spots.

The Schoolhouse to Upper Ellis is the new nitwit zone... They should rename it the "Erie Zone".
I could not believe the bumble**** I saw when I crossed the bridge in the mornings.

The madness is starting to stretch into the Bovines.

Go below Pineville or just above it and you will miss 95% of the nonsense.

SSSSHHHHHhhhhhhhh you might scatter the nitwits. Its amazing that there are this many people. I wish the DEC would weed out all the clowns that lack the sportsmanship the river desevers. Most of these guys do not want to learn how to fish properly, they just want to know where the fish are so they can lift them. Fudge only I didnt say fudge.

I dont think eithor of you know what your talking about, everyone fishing up top was eithor pinning ar swinging flies. There were some russians takeing half dead salmon out of the side stream below the wires and couple lifters in the tressel and one snagger below the can other than that plenty of honest fisherman catching fish. Drake you stay mid river dont want you up top anyway! Matter of fact just stay in Pa.

3fan - do like the wind does, it is what you do best.

I laugh at the high quality guides at the Wires and Ellis that line their boats up like cars in a Wallmart parking lot.
No more skill than what the Russians have.
Can't believe they get clients that are dumb enough to pay $300 to fish overcrowded holes usually reserved for the lazy****dark-horse chasin numbskulls that refuse to walk more than a 1/4 from their vehicle.

Then again, some guides are leary of floating the more challenging waters below Pineville...

My share of the NY property taxes are paid up for the year.
I'll stomp all over the Empire State.

Pinners can be pricks too. I do not like lifters and I do not like when guys run the float 40 feet past me. You dont have to be a lifter to be unsportsmanlike. I have seen plenty of honest fisherman and plenty that were not, every day is different. So be it

Since the temps have dropped, I can't find any hummingbirds in my yard....

So I stopped at a pet store, then a craft store.

Now, I am trying desperately to glue a set of wings on a hamster...

Found the cutest set of purple estaz wings in Michaels Craft Store - in the "guide's choice" section.

The little rodent won't sit still.

Plan B - load it up with some JD via an eyedropper, that should calm it down long enough for the super glue to take hold.

Just trying to follow the Boy Scout motto "Be Prepared" for when I arrive tomorrow...

    BBBWWWAAHHHH  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

p.s. - 3fan - if you read back in this thread you may notice that I was responding to Salmo's comment about crowded conditions near Altmar (a statement of fact that no one can deny) and made no comment whatsoever toward you. You started the tough guy BS. No surprise if you don't back it up.

2 years ago i fished altmar in beginning of feb. a few guys in fly stretches. school house and wires had 25 guys in sight with 3 boats... it was 21 below zero that morning... cold doesn't scare away everyone. this past jan and feb i made 4 trips... fortunately a lot of weekdays with some weekends. there was pressure everyday, and there were many single mornings, and a few sub zero...as i said, cold doesn't scare away everyone
