Another Near Miss at Oswego

http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2010/10/fishermen_rescued_from_oswego.html

eyewitness account said the "captain" dropped anchor from front of boat, anchor slipped, backend swung out right into the branch, no oar locks, etc.

I'm no boat expert - but one should not anchor above a sweeper - period...

Anchoring a**backwards puts a capital S on the word Stupid.

Since it had a motor, the "captain" was NYS licensed... hmmmmmm.

I know there must be tons of fish in there, with all the high water in Oct., but messing with the big O when it is running over 10,000 is just not anything that interests me at all.  Wonder why they would try to anchor that close to the shore on Leto Island?

the anchor slipped and they could not recover in time b4 they were swept into sweeper.

being anchored backwards and swinging the backside of the boat around did not help and probably broke the anchor free.

Darwin has his eye on that captain, and potentially anyone that gets in a boat with him.

The boat on the bottom of the picture is "catch the drift" Ive seen him up there for 5 or more years, good guide always seems to be hitting fish. What I dont understand is why you would drop anchor from the front of the boat. I have seen a few boats on the salmon with the front anchor arm and always think when would you use that? That captain has alot to be thankful for that boat should probably have flipped over, Im thinking his clients wont be rebooking.
