Every year a few wise bowhunters I know tell me "DO NOT get burned out in the first couple weeks of the season, save it for the last 3 weeks". It wasn't by choice, but I have only hunted 2 days this season so far due to other obligations and believe me I am ready to get out there!

Keep your chin up, you never know what will cross your path from here on out. Every year we have big bucks that we never saw or knew to be in the area show up in the last 2 weeks of the season.

Good luck and get out there!

That post is right on Esox. i always have a few in my ear telling me to relax hit it here and there and then have everything left for the last several weeks. Sometimes it's tough to stay out of the woods but you have to always tell yourself that in the back of your mind. BUT that being said my cousin whacked a pig the opening saturday on his farm so i had to eat my words for awhile.

get in the woods chicken........i like and hate the rut? if that makes sense, it can be very fun to watch and very frustrating if anyone knows what i mean..some years i've seen buck, but not had them under me due to they are running like idiots, but i still will say its the best time.

anything can happen, thats the drive that keeps me going no matter what part of the season. learning from years where i've sat in a tree for weeks and hours and more...and then seconds later here comes the buck you harvest, and everything before you forget about "wasting my time in that tree" lol

I just came back from taking a ride to glass a few spots. The deer were in every field i checked. The spot i was going to hunt tonight was a posted farm in washington county.I was going to hunt above this winter wheat field.I checked this spot an saw 13 doe and one shooter ten in th winter wheat at 6:30 tonight. It looked that the 10 was checking the doe.I'm not 100 percent for sure he was checking doe but i don't think a buck like this would be out in this 100 acre field at broad daylight?

I just got off the phone with my 2 friends who were hunting on our 150acres. It has basically been dead thus far for all of us until tonight apparently. They saw 6 bucks between the 2 of them including some good ones. Neither of them got close enough to get a shot at one of the good bucks, but it seems promising to me.

Get out there if you can!! If you have too much time you are welcome to come into work for me and I will get out there!

Get in the woods!!!  So far it has been real slow for me in the woods.  Tonight I hunted a 65acre posted block of woods that I havent been in since last year.  At 3:45 a large 10point and a nice 8point ran past me while i was putting the climber on the tree.  At 6 I had another 8point chase a doe behind me.  To far to shoot.  Then a nice 6 point trailed them.  4 bucks, 3 legal, and 6 longbeards tonight.  I will tell you right now, my drive is back!!!

The bucks do seem like there getting really interested in the doe's but the 2nd full moon after the fall equinox isn't till november 20.The cold weather might have them thinking with the wrong head right now.Anybody else know when the doe will come in heat?

Esox i'm a self employed mechanic so in bow season i'm pretty poorWe usally try to take a week off in november but with the old man killing early we might concertrate on a bear with a bow.We will start early when bow hunting is in and quit at 3 or 3 30 and we don't work saturdays but if the work load gets intense we will work sundays.

Haha nice. Make sure you are getting enough work to done to cough up $400 for your mount when the time comes this season

I wish my schedule was as flexible. I get saturdays and the first week of Nov for vacation.

M youngest daughter likes to go spotting so we'll go 3 to 4 times a week.We went to a spot a haven't hunted since they put the new highway in beside the house. We saw a giant 16 point in a soybean field right along the road.I have no clue how many guys know about this guy.I thought about trying to hunt him but the woods are all cut up and jiggers higher then me.I don't like going to a spot like this because if someone has been watching this deer it won't be fair for me to go after him.He got split g2's,Split brows and a few stickers he is absolutely stud.Oh i do have permission to hunt this land which is not posted property just ask and they'll leave you hunt.

If a 16 point, on land you can hunt doesn't get you going, not much will.

The day I wake up and don't have the "drive" is the day I quit hunting.
I hope you really don't mean what you say because you used to really get into it.

Very long day today. Hunted a.m. and p.m. NADA! Two dead doe on the road less than 1 mile from where I hunt. Saw 13 doe in a small posted area very close to my house.  FRUSTRATING! All I got was a sore back from my tree stand.

Hunted tonight till 7:05.This spot is very close to the house an a easy walk to get to.I saw my first buck of the year tonight.A little scrub head six at 38 yards. This was the spot with the 16 point. Not many buck rubs in there but boy is it thick. They timber it for the highway now it tree tops 30 feet high and super thick.I went down a deer path to find some trial markers and a area cut out in the thicket so i stay back a 100 yards from that spot.Ironhed i don't know if i lost my drive maybe i'm just frustrated. All the time we put into this an usally end up not getting a deer.I know guys that don't do $**** but go out an kill big bucks year after years. The wife said i'm getting way to serious about it but the way i look at it if you want to kill big bucks you gotta be serious.

Dont worry about other guys and what they are doing. A lot of them probably have access to way better properties than you do and some people are just plain lucky.
