Because it's more time with my kids as well as the others I take hunting. I wouldn't harvest any more than I do now! I could likely kill a deer almost everyday as it is BUT I don't. I may harvest 1 or 5 depending on how I feel! (Gotta love Allegheny County!)

NO.
If they do allow Sunday hunting, sell a "Sunday permit"...charge $10 for it, limit hunting to State Game Lands and use the $10 permit fee to pay for the additional enforcement...since you will be forcing the already overburdened Game Wardens to work more days for their pittance of a paycheck!

Also, if Sunday hunting is permitted, make all of the school kids stay in school on the first two days of buck season, since they will now have additional hunting days available to them!

The first day of buck already seems to be a state holiday...

Just my 2 cents...

On the internet, EVERYONE is entitled to their opinion!

why is it nor safe to be in the woods with hunters?  many people fish during hunting season and hunters hunt during hunting season safely.  the fear of hunters is unfounded and totally baseless and unrational.

yep Riz... I'm sure that me flinching when the tree nearby me expoded from a bullet during hunting season was totally baseless and irrational, and my mom's neighbor probably thought finding a dead steer in his field was totally baseless and irrational because of course all hunters clearly identify their targets before they shoot...

you think it's safe... that's fine, it's your opinion... I have reasons for my opinions also, so don't call them 'totally baseless and irrational'...

A question was asked which was based on peoples opinions for the answer... so opinions are what were given.

Yes, in archery season only.

You're right, the archers deserve more.  Their season is only 3X as long as gun season is now.  Why should the 70% majority have anything?

Fisherlady, I have read your posts and respect you as your posts are always sound. However, I do have to ask, how was your neighbor's dead steer related to Sunday Hunting. As for horseback riders, I tolerate them without confrontation daily where I bowhunt. Some of them seem like good people, but EVERYONE of them I encounter is trespassing and most of them have an egotistical sense of self-importance that would eclipse most royalty. I know of at least a dozen farms that have been posted not as a means of deterring hunters (although that does come into play), but more as a means of keeping horseback riders out.

Griffon...
I understand what you mean about the horseback riders, it only takes a few in any sport to ruin it for all, and I have seen those types. As for the reference to the steer, it actually is sort of along the same vein... Riz said

the fear of hunters is unfounded and totally baseless and unrational.

I simply used the example of the shot farm animal as an example of why folks would be concerned about the safety of being out and about during the week when hunters are in the woods and why some of us would prefer to have at least one day we wouldn't need to be concerned.  Bullets don't stop at property lines, or edges of SGLs...
Can the intent of the hunter who shot the steer be proven? Was it a mis identification from a great distance or through brushy terrain? an errant shot which hit an unfortunate target? Deliberate destruction out of spite or ignorance?
I realize most hunters wouldn't deliberately put others at risk, but accidents happen, as does ignorance... and, as is the case with the horseback riders you mentioned causing land owners to post against trespass, in my case the dead farm animals and personal near miss has caused me to want at least one day where concerns can be fewer. Unfortunately, the truth is... the actions of a few can ruin it for all....

hunters have a very limited number of day to hunt.  rifles are used for 6 days for elk, 3 days in bear season and 2 weeks in deer season, don't horse riders have enough days the rest of the year to ride?

I expected that most guys who POST HERE would post they wanted Sunday hunting...
in fact == I am really glad and surprsied some had the courage to post their feelings of "no"
definitely more said no than I expected HERE...

that has not been the results on other boards... nor the general public comments at deer open houses or directly to the PGC...

PLUS I do not think "anyone" is going to base the final decision on what the majority of only 10% of Pa's population feels... the biggest opponents are farmers and privtae property owners and they HAVE TO BE HEARD they are the ones electing the officials..

any final decision will have to be based/influenced on the majority of NON-hunters....

If 10% of the population (if they agreed 100%) feels we should be able to drive 70 mph do think they would change the speed limit based on that 10% ???? I doubt it would get change with 100% wanting it....

Surely you do not mean that you thought for ONE SECOND a poll like that on this board would turn out "NO" to Sunday Hunting ??

There are only a few that are not constantly anti-pgc on any topic that post here... that's why I was pleasantly surprised to see those that did post no to Sunday hunting ..

And I know from the last Sunday hunting topic you know I feel 100% the same as fisherlay2 about the livestock and a free day from worrying about hunters in the woods...
as I have posted before most everyone around here puts their livestock, horses, goats, pets, etc inside of some structure during rifle season because of all the public land hunters around here.
Some even wear flo-orange while outside their home...

I have also posted about property that used to be open for hunting being posted because of pets, livestock getting killed ... so her concern is a real one and shared my many at least around here..

Riz..

In talking to land owners around here it is not the number of days hunters with rifles are in the woods..... it's the fact that they own the land and are willing to adjust to hunters as long as they have a day of rest from worries, tresspassers, etc ... that is why MANY are saying that they will post their land and not allow hunting if the Sunday hunting becomes law..

Many who want Sunday Hunting have said well they can post for just the "No Sunday hunting here" type condition on their property.. good idea right ?? ... NOT....they have told me ""if the hunters are no happy with 6 days a week hunting here then see how they feel with NONE on my farm""...

Having any extra time to allow more opportunity for hunting is an idea which I support,

but this one rubs too many other folks (non-hunters) the wrong way and IMO will give hunters
(in general) a "black-eye" for some time to come if it ever does get to be the law...

add another Saturday or two ... that would allow more opportunity and not get near the negative response as Sunday hunting does...

A day of rest my A**. Whats the difference if there are hunters in the woods on sundays? Check out the Ohio residents they seem plenty comfortable on sundays, at least the ones I've visited! PA will go to sunday hunting someday. If it were up to the voters who elect the elected officials we probably wouldn't be able to hunt at all! I know more people than not think killing a deer is wrong around here where I'm from.

DT I usually enjoy your post and get a kick out of the arguing back and fourth. this time I can see why people jack you off! Your thoughts on Surely you do not mean that you thought for ONE SECOND a poll like that on this board would turn out "NO" to Sunday Hunting crack me up like this board is any different than others. Were all fisherman on here "I THINK" so does that mean we think different? We might lie a little, maybe just a real little and tell fishing stories, but other than that the same as others.

DT there is no question you are very opinionated, but like the old saying goes "opinions are like A**holes everyone has one and most of them stink"!

Big Fathead..

I was simply stating that I expected the results here to be NO by a large majority... after all as you stated..
it is a fishnig site with almost 25,000 registered members...

and a total of 32 bothered to voice an opinion on Sunday hunting ..

I would not consider that a good representation of the members of this site as to their thoughts on Sunday hunting  --  would you ????

32 is probably pretty acturate on how many regularly visit the hunting sections here... so I do not feel it shows a  real accurate view of hunters as a whole here .... you are right everyone here is an angler, but I'll bet there are more than 32 hunters.. but that's all that wanted to respond to the poll...

Many HUNTING SITES have a different result to Sunday hunting polls.....

You say that ONLY beacuse the poll does not support your position...Nice backtrack again..
You jumped right on the poll at the beginning and tried to give it credibility when it was a close vote.....

Looks like you fall right in line with these folks..
http://www.hsus.org/wildlife/wildlife_news/a_tale_of_two_states_sunday_hunting_dealt_double_blow.html

Only 10 states out of 50 do not allow Sunday hunting...
Must be those other 40 states have a lot of dead farm animals and pets from this crazy idea of Sunday hunting....

Doc,

If the legislature passes control to the PGC that does not equate to Sunday hunting for all species during all existing seasons.  That is the biggest misconception out there.  This fear by some of what may happen has those against "Sunday hunting" supporting our politicians current grasp of a issue that is a seasons and bag limits issue that should be in the PGC control.  All of the groups you mention can still lobby the PGC.

Bings..

check out how many of those states allowing sunday hunting have near the number of deer hunters we have OR how many allow rifles for deer hunting...

that does come into play ....

you are right == I was excitied about the poll at the beginning.. but then I saw that the majority of memebers here were NOT going to respond.... so there went any hopes for a good representation poll...

32 people.. shows me nothing as for this site's opinion... just the opinion of 32 guys of 25,000
