Sunday Hunting

This is going to be the first in a series of polls, that I am going to take on this forum and in the sportsmens clubs I represent.

I would ask that a simple yes or no vote be cast by each respondant. You are welcome to discuss the subject as well, but I don't want answers with conditions, simply answer yes or no to the question as it reads. For example the question for this thread will be simply,

Would you support the creation of additional Sunday hunting opportunities in Pennsylvania?

Please don't answer with an answer similar to this

"Well yes as long as........."

Just yes or no. We will address the side issues as time progresses.

I will start the answers off with a

Yes.

Better too far back, than too far forward.

Reason for my vote is the gameless commission doesnt need to be given yet one more significant tool to slaughter even more of the deer herd to cater to the enviromentalist agenda, and thats exactly what would happen with quite a few more nonwork days available to hunt throughout the season.

    NO !!

so far 7 yes and 5 no..

just like I said TOO CLOSE to make a move.. even among hunters !!!!

You have to remember all the folks that do not like the deer plan do not want Sunday hunting, they think too many are already getting killed... add those of us who like the deer plan but still do not want Sunday hunting and you can see the problem with getting anything done about Sunday hunting....

MM has said before most of those he talks to and those at his "clubs" think there are not enough deer.. it will be interesting if they then say that want to add another "off work day" for most to increase the harvests.... PLEASE keep us posted as to what you find...

I think you will find it will end up just like I said... 50-50 at best

I disagree doc. I dont think thats even close to being true. WHile its obvious some of that type dont support sunday hunting for obvious reasons.. Lots of guys who do not support the failed deer management plan DO want sunday hunting. Its been shown on other message board polls time and again. You can argue their reasoning, but it is what it is.

Just as YOU support hr, and the deer plan, yet DO NOT support sunday hunting. While its a significant one, the deer situation isnt the only reason to support or oppose the proposal.

Despite my feelings on the issue, and even though i do not, Id say from past polls a majority of hunters do want sunday hunting.

But when you have a significant number, even if a minority, that doesnt...Plus most other nonhunters including landowners that do not.. Then id agree, it might not be a good idea to go forward with.

Yes, a few years back, it rained every Saturday in small game season. If a man has dogs , and pays to feed and takes time to train them, he had no weekdays to hunt[till after Christmas].

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.  Can't say it enough.  Open Sunday's to hunting, cut the doe tags appropriately and let the 7:00 - 5:00 working man have a few more days to hunt!

nothing against people who have hunting dogs WF... but what about folks who do the same with horses? Feed and care for them year round and can't take them into the woods to enjoy a beautiful time of year because of hunters? Having Sundays free of the big game hunters means other folks who avoid the wooded areas all week have a day they too can get out to enjoy things. It's not just folks who want to get out to ride horseback, but other folks enjoy the recreation opportunities of our woodlands also.
My mom's horses are kept in the barn/paddock nearly all fall because of hunters who won't abide by safety zones and trespass laws... leave at least one day of the week available to others... hunters have 6 out of the 7....

WF... no problem over the dog thing, my stepdad has hunted dogs of different types for years...
and I know it is only a half dozen or so Sundays, the problem is that from October through December the woods (and even the areas nearby) basically aren't safe for recreational activities EXCEPT on the Sundays... so out of say 50 days only 6 or 7 are available for others...
Having the Sundays off is the only safe chance other folks have to get out and about for any pursuits, be it horses, hiking, camping, firewood collecting, just sightseeing the leaves or the myriad of other pursuits enjoyed by a great majority of the states non-hunting residents.
Why should all of their interests take a back seat to hunters getting the 7th day?
Not to mention, Sundays are the only day we get a break from the parade of road hunters that go past my house during hunting season. Is nice to have a day away from that also!
And BTW... law enforcement coverage is stretched too thin to begin with, how will they cover another day?
Everyone will have their own view on it... and rightfully so, but I can tell you, if hunting becomes allowed on Sundays, I know at least one piece of property (100+ acres) that will become unavailable to hunters. As of now it hasn't been posted, but that would end it.

If you are worried about that kind of stuff, post the (your) land No Sunday hunting.....

It won't change anything considering the rate at which land is being posted now anyways.
