Another day on stand

Got in real early. Watched a little gully that is dry most of the time. Another beautiful, deerless morning. About 7:30 one snorted about 100 yards behind me. I guess it winded me as, even tho I was up high, there was a lot of little breezes swirling around. In my experience, it's always tricky hunting draws and little valleys.

In the evening I hung a stand about 100 yards behind my house. There's about a one in ten thousand chance that I'll see a deer from there, but I can be hunting in less than five minutes.

Slow here as well, especially considering I can only hunt Saturdays My buddy has been hunting evenings this week and has been seeing very few deer. Of course it is going to be in the 70's tomorrow afternoon also!

On the bright side, a quick spotting trip last night revealed 12 bucks within about a mile of my primary hunting property. However, that may actually make me feel worse considering we are not seeing them on stand.

I've got 25 hours invested in 4 different stands and have seen 8 doe. I know the bucks are there but so much feed they don't have to move much. The rut will tell the story. Nice to get out without getting rained on for once.

i was out yesterday morning saw 6, the same two bucks from the first day, a six point and a five point and 4 does, and in the evening the same button buck..pretty soon i'll be naming them little bobby and so forth. i really agere with the food, unless you know where "he" beds and goes 50 yards to wherever to eat hes not traveling any more then that. really hard to hunt big tracks of land with the way the foods in the woods. here is a terrible idea...cut down all the oaks except the small group you want to leave, THEN next year we wont agrue where to find which oak grove to hunt.....there will only be one. lol

Got over 20 hrs in a tree so far an only saw 7 doe.Had 3 in bow range the other night when a dirt bike spooked them off.I made a move at one spot to try to get a doe but they came down the path i hunted monday night.270 i gave it some thought about shooting a mom with fawns.I would rather shoot a fawn then the mom.The old man shot a mature doe last night with no fawns. He hit her a little far back but the rage put it down pretty fast.It went through the guts an come out the opsitite steak. It broke one blade pretty bad an also his insert was broke from the blade smashing it.He found before i got there but there was a good blood trial also it was shot was an x-bow an the blades didn't come open in flight.

SSLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW day on Saturday for me. I was in stand from 6-11 and 3-7:30 I only saw one lonely 3 point.

There are literally scrapes on top of scrapes, every tree that looks like it should have a scrape under it does. I have never seen that much buck sign in this area, ever. Something has got to break here soon to get these deer on their feet during daylight hours.

Only hunted the AM on Saturday (other than Sat. AM and PM last weekend) and saw 3 doe/fawns and 2 8 points (one possible shooter and one legal but non shooter for me) on stand.  They moved by at 20 yds but it is so thick still I never had a chance.  I kicked out a couple deer in the dark on the way in, heard some in the dark after I climbed the tree, and kicked out a couple on the way out.  I was back at the truck at 9 am and home by 9:45am to take my kids and the inlaws and their kids to Triple B farms for the pumpkin patch thing.  Too hot for me to be in the stand in the PM anyways.  May get out in the afternoon later this week after this next cool/cold front goes through.

October almost always sucks for me.  I love this month, but the hunting is tough.  All those bucks everyone gets on trail camera all summer long have a tendency to disperse come october.  you have to be pretty good to get a big buck in the middle of this month.  not that i wont try, but walking that fine line between too close to his core area and too far can be tricky.  Spooked old pigface on saturday.  Hopefully he freaks out and heads to the other side of the farm.  I bet he ends up staying put and going full fledged nocturnal though.

Deer were moving pretty good for me Saturday, saw 9 doe and 4 bucks(4 pt, half rack 2, 7 pt and one good buck) in the am. Could have shot the small 7 pt. The good buck was about 60-70 yds away could not get a count on him. Saw a mature buck in the evening just could not get him in close enough. also saw another scrub buck and 3 more doe in the evening. went out this am, did not see anthing.

I finally saw a deer. It was a four point, obviously a year and a half old. I hunted out of a spot that I only ever see deer if there are acorns on the ground. Man, it was warm today.

been seeing some does here and there no horns yet. decided to test out the new bow last night on one of them. shot 25 yards quartered away, arrow penetrated just behind the rib cage and exited just behind the opposite front shoulder. only went about 70 yards. and always follow up on blood trails i took all the insides out and the blood trail was iffy. i lost it at one point in thick stuff. had a buddy come to take a second look and the deer ended up circleing in the brush. grimm reapers did a great job entance and exit holes huge the lack of blood was because intestines and other organs were hanging out the holes so it was just filling up inside.  i am satisfied with the new setup
