HARFORD COUNTY, Md. -- A York man died Thursday night in Harford County, Md., when he fell about 25 feet from a tree stand while deer hunting.

Had a buddy fall last year and his leg bone came out his leg. That was after I told him multiple times to make plans to meet up at lowes/home depot and we'll get him set up. He is fully recovered and walking again. And here we are two weeks away from the archery opener and home depot is out of the stuff so it's on order. Don't ever leave the ground with being attached. 85% of falls occur while ascending or descending.

If you don't understand how to make a life line (for hang-on or ladder stands), pm me. If you don't understand how to make a lineman's belt for a climber, pm me. Life lines cost about $35.00 of material and lineman's belt is around $8.

    Scary stuff for sure.

The co-worker of a friend was out trimming some limbs a few weeks ago while in one of his stands and fell 20'. He was luck to have only broken his pelvis and hurt something in his shoulder, although the shoulder required almost immediate surgery.

    Be careful out there fellas.

Thank you SK... nearly every year I end up in the woods treating someone who comes out of a tree... it's not worth the risk...

Shawn, yes of course, no problem. I have forever wanted to take step by step pics of everything. A buddy just bought a ladder stand so I think I will try this week.

If that doesn't work out you can take the photos when you help me move mine.

If you want to tie me up a couple deer, I will have plenty of time to help.

    When are you thinking ?

There are no deer where I hunt, remember?

I haven't thought about when yet.  Can more than likely do it on a Sunday in Oct/Nov.

I was talking about the deer I hunt. I know the ones I want tied up. And what tree to tie them to.

Fisherlady - I suppose you are a nurse ? If you already stated it, I missed it.

I believe there were 22 treestand related accidents last year at the local hospital.

That is a good idea to show how to make the life line. If I don't get called into work tomorrow I'm going to be making some new ones for me and my dad so I may take pictures and post them up here. The ones they sell are too expensive if you hunt from more then one tree... Stay safe out there

Should be pretty simple to get an appropriate length of properly rated, camo rope to secure from shoulder height above the platform of the stand to shoulder height as your standing on the ground and then use a smaller length of properly rated rope to tie on a prusic knot that can slide up and down with you.  Just attach your safety harness into it as you are climbing.  You can google up prusic knot and figure out how to tie one.

please wear a harness,it takes me a whopping extra 5 minutes of time to be connected to the tree from the time i leave the ground until i return to it. its not worth the risk!
