You are better off waiting a few weeks but if you do head up.......Try to fish the mouth of Elk and the shoreline first thing in the morning as chrome is staging literally 5 feet off shore at first day light. The nut is a zoo and I wouldn't recommend that circus to anyone. The east side streams are still a few weeks away from holding any significant numbers of fish.

Good luck if you make the trip though.

At First light I hit them good for awhile at the mouths this AM. Roped my three by around 10 am throwing everything but the kitchen sink, one minute they hit this next min something else. Not a whole lot of fish yet but enough to keep you busy if your really itching to go. Two more weeks and the numbers should be greatly increased is my guess.

Watch the wave forecast and wind direction.  You want a morning when the bottom isn't all stirred up for shore casting spoons.

The best wind direction for fishing the lake is a light Northwest wind.  You want the wind blowing directly away from the shoreline and into the waves, so that it smooths out the lake making it like glass ideally.  Perfect wind doesn't happen very often though, so any kind of north wind is better than south.

You mean SOUTH wind. Wind direction is stated as the direction it's blownig from, not towards.

Spoons right, I was talking the direction the wind should be blowing towards.  Technically I guess it would be called a South East wind and South wind by weather forecasters.

I'll still always think of it the other way around though.  I'm always thinking about which direction the wind is blowing towards for archery and never use the forecast direction.

My brother went to trout run this weekend and attempted to chuck spoons.  He went 8 for 8 on snags of rocks and lost every spoon.  He couldn't get in the channel because it was full of people but was on the shore at the mouth.  Any secrets to this method ?  Are there other mouths that are better because of the depth etc.  Thanks again !

sounds like he needs to lighten up the weight of the spoon, get the small cleo that bac has, i think its 1/8 oz but i could be wrong.  Any mouth is good right now, and in all honesty you do not need to be by the channel, me and my buddy proved that sat. morning. Found steeys around 200 yards on each side of the mouth. Just look for them surfacing and get there!!

through September, there's fish at every trib mouth. Happens every year.
Some tribs will be better than others.
If one isn't producing, try another.

Guys were doing well at the mouth of a East Side stream this weekend.  Mostly centerpinners using Skein/fresh eggs drifting to where the mouth becomes deepest into the lake.

Also saw some guys to the east of the mouth catching them on spoons/flatfish.
