Allegheny River report - 09/09/10
Decided to use a 1/2 day vacation this AM to hit the river at Harmarville.
Water still pretty warm, 74-76 deg, and off color from the storms this week.
Started off pitching a jig and worm and nailed a 22" channel cat right off the bat then it slowed way down.
Saw TONS of gizzard shad, I think and other bait busting the surface and then a few fish smacks on top. Started throwing a small white buzzbait with chart. curl tail trailer and ended up landing 6 bass (5 smallies and 1 largemouth) with the biggest a 14.5" smallie. Lost a couple that were hooked briefly and also had a 1/2 dozen misses. Always nice getting those topwater bites.
Moved around some and hit my one good 'eye spot and did manage to get on 14" and a stinkin' mooneye. Fished for another hr after that and didn't get another good hit. Think I'll wait until it cools down some more.
