What's everybody tying ??

Terrible weather today so I spent it at the bench...

Buddy of mine dropped off 20 bucktails he had in the basement so I started with them as I was checking the hair..

This is my "Coat of many Colors" mouse..
3/0 weedless

This little guy on the 6w is going to get me a big Brownie after dark some night..

Added a row of Wiggle Stones to the new nymph box. #14 & #16..

Some Deer Hair Caddis for the fast water in the tailwaters. #14s...

Been working on extra long streamers that are light enough to cast with some distance with my 7 weight.
Been trying some feather wing streamers, mainly those Langely Lake region style and tandem style streamers tied by Carrie Stevens.
Problem is getting 10x long hooks from my usual suppliers. I thought of tying them on tubes, but want to stay more toward the traditional design.

Tried 'em both ways in the past ... but I found they come out easier this way with my stubby fingers. And no problems with them falling out. I believe I'm right though - per the pic:

Ive got to tie maybe 5 flies in the past month. Ill get a fly done and my youngest will need held or my oldest will want to try. Not discouraging me just wish i had the time to myself to fill the boxes up. Ill just go buy some i caught myself telling a guy the other day at work. My bench has atleast a half inch of dust and I cant see myself getting the time alone to tie. Colin just turned a month and my wedding is in 24 days life just doesnt seem to want to slow down enough for me to just sit and tie. After the honeymoon I told myself the basement is calling get the bench organized and get those boxes filled.

    Nice job, D-Nymph.

What did you do for those heads? Spun and trimmed zonker? Craft fur?

The white ones are spun craft fur.  The yellow spun arctic fox.  Really neither are truly "spun" they are tied over/under/side in clumps, and trimmed.

All others are "ram's" wool or "sculpin" wool, depending on how a manufacturer labels them, spun.

The wool is heavier, retains water & sinks faster.  The craft fur/fox is lighter, casts easier, sinks ok.

These flies crushed bass for me all summer.  Several days where it's all I fished.  And will get a workout on fall trout soon enough.

LOL I though I was the only one to do that.
It was a good way for me to utilize all those clipped up pelts of white polar fiber.

Thursday was my "prepare for fall trout and steelhead" tying day. Unfortunately, it was more of a "replace all those flies you lost in spring and summer and get a start on fall flies" day. I tied up my emerald shiner zonker pattern that worked well last year, some orange sinking ants, prince nymphs and some wooly buggers. Still have some copper johns, hotwire princes, and some glo bug/meth flies to whip up. Then I can start playing around with tubes and waddington shanks.

Wow DT...NICE Triple Threats. In the lower stretches of the streams a minnow pattern can be killer on the fresh Steel.
