The straight poop

Well pulled into altmar at 630am was a guy fishing off the bridge below the fly zone, why I dont know. Went down to ellis cove parking lot and it was empty, walked down to the muscrat hole saw two fish in the tail, swung my fly right in front of them three times before they took off. One came back after 5 or so minutes and I cast to him again, second cast found his tail, he took off up stream and I popped him off. Walked all the way down to the tressel seeing only three more fish. Walking back up a drift boat pulled in to muscrat and I headed straight back to the truck. Went down to pineville walked around glassing the water fo 30 minutes didnt see a thing. Trucked on down to the ballpark were there were 8 cars parked, 7 from pennsylvania and one from jersey, tried to talk to three guys by the stairs but they were real "tools", drinking beer at 830am, thats fishing? A local guy pulled up as I was takeing my wadders off for the hour trip home and said he saw a guy carry a fish out from the black hole two days ago that was 40lbs, my largest is about 30 and that was a big fish, cant imagine 40. So I fished 3 hours and saw 5, gonna wait till monday now then Ill sneak back up and see if the weather stirs something up cause right now the fisherman outnumber the fish about 20 to 1. Hold off if you have to drive far its not worth it yet.

And you should Sgt. We always talk about don't trust what you hear and there are no fish in the river reports. Well my wife and I have gone up on alot of "no fish" reports and have done real well, just to come home and read how bad the fishing was that day. So in my opinion if you have the time, what better way to spend it than roll the dice and take a chance. Its good to get out anyway.

Stress is just one hookset away from being gone.

Really appreciate the info.  Wish there were sites like this 20 yrs. ago when I used to drive up to Pulaski.  Not all of us from PA are 8:30 AM boozin' tools.  Back in the day, I saw a guy at Niagara power plant land a 39# king, and I got a 37 myself (@ Oswego).  They are big fish for sure.  Sounds like I will wait a while to try it again.  Good luck on your next trip, 3fan.

Never would condem anyone for an 830am "frosty pop" it was more of their attitude when I was trying to be nice and check the scene out without just jumping in the river and swinging flies, if they had been there all morning with no action no need for me to waste any time. Fish in Pa myself quit often I will float the deleware and cast dries to those beautiful trout, many a time have anchored grilled a nice steak and had a cold beer, did this one time and as we were leaving and heading down stream my buddy says look over there, it was a bald eagle sitting on a broke limb 10 feet off the water, we floated quietly by and my buddy took a picture with his phone. Im headed back up tomorrow early a.m, gonna see if the water brings anything up.

Your lucky to have a brother to share the beautiful fall days on the river with. My brother I took up and watched him catch his first salmon, same with steelhead, took him to the deleware were he cought his first brown on a dry, a beautiful 18 incher, called in his first turkey for him. Than about 5 years ago couldnt get him to do a thing, got a beautiful 23.5' lake boat I fish 3 days a week on and he has never been on it, cant get him to float or just go up and fish on the salmon and he only hunts from like 10am on and I am already in the woods 5 hours befor 10. Strange thing, I thought hw was gonna be a great fisher/hunter turns out he likes to sleep more!

    Hey sgt,
Know the feeling I have two boys too ( both getting closer to 40) one loves to fish but the job keeps him from up there and the other doesn't really care to fish much. Hey -if evreyone liked it up there there would be no room for the rest of us.
Be looking for you on the river--I'm the older guy with a fly rod in hand, floppy hat, grey stash and a belly a bit larger than it ought to be.

There were a few salmon being lifted (just a glorified word for snagging) at the ball park. Upper river I noticed 2 trout around and spotted a few salmon.
My line never touched the water in 4 days..

Give it another 2 weeks and if the fish don't hit coolers the entire river should have plenty..
If you are looking for fish now, stay low.. Real low in the river..

Was at elliscove at 6am worked my way down to above the tressel, swung my bugger for an hour talked to a guy from vermont, saw two fish splash up thru the shallows and was back home with a golf club in my hand by 1030. Cool weather in the forcast after tuesday, if the water stays up you never know, maybe next weekend!
