Dear Cabela's Customer:

Occasionally, an issue of such importance arises we feel it necessary to contact our loyal customers. With our fishing rights at stake, this is such an issue.

On August 23, 2010, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency was petitioned by the Center for Biological Diversity and others to ban lead from ammunition and fishing tackle, including sinkers, jigs, weighted fly lines and components containing lead, such as brass and ballast in lures, spinners, stick baits and other fishing products.

On August 27, the EPA denied the petition regarding ammunition, but let stand the petition to ban lead in fishing tackle and has opened a short period for taking public comment.

Such a ban would cause prices of fishing products to skyrocket. Alternative metals can cost from six to 15 times more than lead, and most do not perform as well. For many, fishing would no longer be the affordable sport it is now.

Please join Cabela's and Keep America Fishing in opposing this ban by submitting your comments to the EPA no later than September 15, 2010. You can easily do so by clicking here.

    Thanks for the link Chuck ... I sent the emails to our " public servants " however ; it is my firm belief that those politicans would sell thier souls and ours to the devil if it meant a paycheck . Right before they pass this BS I would be willing to bet they invest in lead alternatives or will advise "thier network" to do so .

    Np, And I agree with you. They will find a way to profit from this.. either directly or indirectly. I signed it, and I hope that every one else does too..

    i think its a good thing theres alot they can make products out of that dont have to be lead

    Once lead is banned, companies will come up with another product. Yes it will be expensive at first but then the prices will fall, just like LCD TV's, Computers and so on. I really cant beleive we've used lead as long as we have. Dont let Cabelas or anyone else tell you that banning lead is against the constitution or the like. Lead is a poisonous material and we should have the common sense not to be chucking it it the water.

    Yes, lead is a poison and I do feel that an alternate would be accaptable.
     
    I think that Vermont already has a lead ban, but not ALL lead...you aren't allowed to have anything less than one ounce in your possession while actively fishing.
    I would agree to that kind of legislation...trolling sinkers would be allowed, but the split-shot and small jig heads (that get lost by the millions!) would need to be substituted...

    On the internet, EVERYONE is entitled to their opinion!

    canada has had a ban for 10 years and its like cale if they start it it comes sooner or later but one thing lead is not man made just refined and if you eat right the body will get rid of lead by urin like the old saying get the lead out or lead in the pencil got me

    Lead may be poisonous but so is the thousands of tons of waste wealthy conglomerates dump in water and on land each year. This is a money making scheme.

    Thank you for taking the time to contact me regarding the petition submitted to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on August 3, 2010, concerning a ban on lead components of bullets, shotgun pellets, fishing weights and lures under the Toxic Substances Control Act.  I appreciate hearing from you about this issue.
     
    The EPA’s public comment period opened on August 25, 2010, and ends on October 31, 2010. The EPA must decide whether to accept or reject the petition by November 1, 2010.  I understand that some people strongly support the proposed ban and believe it would be useful for protecting wildlife species from the threat of lead poisoning and safeguarding human health, while other people deeply oppose the proposed ban and believe it would be costly, intrusive and unnecessary.  As I continue to work on this issue, I will continue to keep both views in mind.

    No doubt .... Mine was worded the same .. Should say keep on paying those taxes . I have NO PROBLEM spending them
