I had a friend that was a leech. I always caught him eating all my food and drinking my beer. The best way is to set out a piece of chocolate cake and a six pack.

No, but I saw on Dirty jobs how they did it and it would be a good idea. You can't always find them in the local shops at least outside of Erie. if the trap design you have is fairly simple, give it a try. You never kow unless you try.

A few years ago I had seen an article on catching leeches... maybe in Pa Fish and Game??? anyway, you used a coffee can, cut small holes in lid, weighted it with a few rocks and put in bloody bait and submerged it in water you knew there were leeches in. (they used a small pond) Leave it a few hours and then retrieve it to check for leeches. I do remember they said to make sure you checked it before the leeches would have time to finish off the bait because they would leave the trap if it was out of food... I'm sorry I don't remember all of the details better to help you out more....
I believe I found it doing a search on Ask.com about 'how to make a leech trap' or something similar. Hope this helps and good luck!

you gotto use the trap at nite. put it out at dark and retrieve it before it gets lite in the morning. the leeches will crawl out and back into the mud. i heard farm ponds where the cows tromp and sh@# in the water are places to try.

My family and I were camping at Tionesta last month and we decided to swim in the river (Tionesta river I believe) where the beach was located. It is now closed. It's near the Allegheny river. We finshed swimming and my young daughter said she had a bug on her foot. I took a closer ook and discovered it was a leech. Have you ever removed a leech from a frantic 8 yr old? That's another story. Also, found a small one between her toes. So I know there are leeches there for sure.
