Do you do any record keeping?

Hi All,

Some people really seem to like to record detailed information about each of their fishing trips. How many of you keep track of the # of fish caught, etc? Do you keep a notebook? A spreadsheet on the computer? A pink diary with a lock on it?

computers and spreadsheets remind me too much of work. I go fishing to avoid stuff like that.

I used to, and is a very good way to determine when and where to fish.  I had where I fished, water temps, weather and fish caught (species and approx. size) and what caught on.  I just wrote it down on some paper and kept it pinned up on a tack board in my office.  Now that I don't fish nearly as much, I revert to memory and just enjoy wetting the line.

I don't do much of any record keeping. My one bud doesn't even admit to catching anything.

I have several crates filled with LPs, but that's about it. ;)  Although I do see the value in it.

I keep a spreadsheet with fishing location, date, and number of each species caught. Last year I started a more detailed log with weather conditions, lures used, etc. It was too much work to keep track of so I quickly stopped using it. The spreadsheet keeps all the info I want.

I have kept a log on paper and now spreadsheet for 35 years, started doing this when I was 12...made fun of by my ex and current wife but since this fishing thing has been a life long passion I can tell you this, patterns repeat themselves and new info gained from the log as you try new things and become more experineced with fishing you will always have starting points and what method to start with. You can take your info and apply it to lakes that are similar in type ( shallow dark water vs clear deep water etc. this info WILL help you catch more fish.
Leaving things to memory thats fine but memory vs recorded data over time ... well its like everything else the more attention to detail the greater the sucess,
