Ohio River PGH pool & Backchannel

Fished the Ohio River PGH pool & Back-channel for a few hours today without a bite.
Fish seemed to be everywhere on the fish finder but 3 of us were skunked.
Tried liver or shrimp at 10 foot down or near bottom near the entrance to the back channel downriver from Alcosan.
Same thing again near the highway bridge and railroad bridge piers, also threw buzz baits, Rapalas, swim baits and plastic worms along piers and near trees.
Fish were showing there from 3 ft down to the bottom.

Surface temp is 79*f

Is 3pm -6:30pm just the wrong time of day to try?

I wanted to stay out past dark but others had commitments at 7

probably a dumb question since you were floating but, did you notice if the road under 79 was still chained off the get to the backchannel? Or did you notice any cars parked on the mckees rocks side?

Not the best time to fish in my opinion, but man I'd think blasting them with every lure in the box would've picked u guys up something, especially w/ shrimp and crawlers. Me and my brother got skunked that a couple weeks back, below lock 3 on the Allegheny! That may be the first time I didn't catch a fish from a boat on the three rivers. I'd be excited to go back!! Cause you don't have many of those days on the river..that bad! You'll hit em!

Make sure your fish finder was not in display mode ! That happened to us on day, we couldn't figure out why we were not catching anything, there were fish all over the screen. Finally, I noticed the screen said display mode, man we had a heck of a laugh at that !

Marty... I talked to my buddy tonight who floated from foxburg to w. montery down near parker up the allegheny last weekend, about 10 guys fished a friendly family tourney and the biggest of the six total smallies they caught was 14" I know most of the guys know what theye are doing too! Very very slow fishing. Usually the rivers are hot (good) right now.
I might give it a go tomorrow. I'll let you guys know!!

I had my friend's kid skiing when we passed Alcosan then we anchored just down river on the other side.
3 of us had 5 rods out and Kimmy holding the net

I told a friend that I would take her water skiing today when filming of Abducted is over for the day.
She said that her segment should be over around 5 so I am going down a few hour early to fish.
This means mid afternoon again but after dusk will probably leave others off and try again.
I told her to bring some food from craft services-preferably shrimp and sushi for bait.

We fished above the Dashields dam friday night and we caught three nice flatheads. A 10, 25 and 38 pounder. The 38 came on a noodle rod with 6 lb. test, what a fight!!!
