Builiding Own Fly Rods

Have a lot of time on my hands and love fly fishing/tying. Thinking about building my own rods someday and wondering if anyone has advice/any leads on how to get started.
Thanks!

My recommendation would be to get to know skip and loomis on here. Got custom rods from both and the workmanship is unreal. They could definitely point you in the right direction...

Some places will sell you a complete kit WITH an instructional video on how to build a rod. Cabellas for one.

quite a few guys on here who have built or do build rods in one capacity or another. it isn't hard, just requires a little patience. If you can tie flies, you can build rods.

www.rodbuilding.org is the place on the net for rod building information. You'll not find a more knowledgeable group of guys or a more civil place to discuss things. Most of the sponsors are great too.

If you don't have anything of the materials required, then the best bet is to find a local buddy, class, or group. You'll get some initial hands-on experience and see if it is for you without any major outlay of cash. If you decide you are definitely building one, then the easiest and most straight forward bet is to get a hook and hackle kit. They are rainshadow blanks and forecast components. Perfectly suitable for a nice trout rod. H&H will get you sorted out with what you need and you're on your way. Grab a few wooden dowel rods for practice wrapping and finishing.

If you run into problems or have questions, just ask here.
