Ask at bait shop/gas station near west end of bridge.

Buy gas before reaching NY State

Having lived on Chautauqua and fishing Musky since 1967 and seeing some patterns in the fall I would recommend trolling the lower lake around Cheneys Point to Lakewood. Keep close to the weedlines and troll rather fast using LARGE Rapalas, or that type of long, slim lure.

When I still do occasional Musky fishing it is hard to not use my supply of old wooden Pikies adjusted for lots of left/right action. Hard to beat them.

Later on in the Fall, until snow keeps you off the lake, it is fun to catch them jigging in up to 50/60 feet of water around the walleyes in the upper lake (Maple Springs, Chautauqua Institution, Dewittville areas). Yes, they do go that deep to feed on the schooling fish. If no Musky, at least the walleye catch is fantastic.

I wish you luck and a big Lunge.

    Enjoy.

Chautauqua is a beautiful lake and the fishing can be excellent.

Troll 10" hookers, legend Perchbaits and 10"Tuff shads in the North end over deep water. Use firetiger, red bar perch brown sucker and all black. If fishing south troll Wileys. It works every year.

It's a neat lake and have FUN! Hopefully in the fall you won't have the jet skiers and tubers that pee you off! Never fished it in the fall/winter. Do as the other fellow said, work the edges of the weeds, which run much deeper than here. And also the point he said about with the jigs. Only trolled it, but everyone said, wallies are there because of the drop and rocky structure. Sounds like he knows his poop and you WILL catch "fish" there!
