Boogie Man

Hello all. I want to try my hand at tying one of Kelly Gallups articulated flies. The Boogie Man. I looked at the recipe and it calls for rams wool for the head and collar. I dont have any and have had little luck finding it. Is there a suitable substitute? Any ideas on where i might find some? Can a synthetic be substituted for the real thing? Also I've been trying to visualize the tying process and keep tripping on the chenille and marabou, how and when each is applied.
Thanks, in advance , for your help.
