Pymy report II

Hit up the Pymy today for a few hours of trolling...
Did well, fish bit most of the day and a very mixed bag..
7 eyes, 6 channel cats, couple bullheads, 5 crappies and 8-9 perch...
Bigger eyes were really fat, must be eating well...
Throwback eyes were all 14" and nice healthy fish....
Did cost me a dozen harnesses, yours worked just fine Pork....

    bullheads, when trolling??

Interesting... I kind of think of them as a scavenger fish, that is best targeted with something smelly/dead in the mud.

    oops, nevermind, I re-read it.
I've got plenty of channels trolling, but never picked up a bullhead.

    lol...

Only thing special about them is, they were tied to bings lines.
Next batch gets NO hooks, I bet he still catches fish.

    wanted to add:
    bings is a good duud....

A while back, about 2 dozen, hand poured, assorted weight bottom bouncers showed up in the mail....
so I was just returning the favor.

I got no secrets, the ones I tied for him were a mixed bag...
some tied w/ 12# berkley XT low vis green, some with 20# cajun red,
all double blades I think (except the floater), again, a mixed bag on the blades...some colorado, some willow, and some hatchet blades I came across with a real nice perch pattern on 'em.

I think the biggest 'trick' is the length.
I go 5-6' long on the leader, as suggested by bing...the further from the boat the better.
    Thanks again Bing.

How fast are you going when trolling a harness? I have been trying them for the first time this year. I have caught some catfish drifting with them but no eyes. We tried trolling once but we only have a little 14 footer with a 5 horse on it. My gps said we were going about 1 to 1.5 mph.

    I too only have a 14' boat...The 5 horse should troll nicely...
1.2--2 mph depending on the wind and whether the fish are scattered or schooled up tight on structure..

Thank you  My guess on how fast to go was pretty close. Now all I have to do is find them down here on Shenango on a more regular basis.

fished the spillway this morning. too many shad to get into the bluegills 8^( never seen that many shad, the predator fish gotta be there too.

so i bit the bullet, started using bread and caught carp after carp.no size really, maybe one 10 pounder. i did atleast manage a couple medium sized channel cats for supper.

Was on the water today from 7 am to 3 pm. Managed 2 crappie (11in and 12in) and 1 eye (18in). Slow day but better than being at work. Going back tomorrow.

Hey Bing!  How much weight are you using to get deep enough when trolling at 1-2 MPH?  I'm heading to Pymy Sunday night and will be fishing Monday and Tuesday.  Thanks!
